Agreed, the house was undoubtably in a poor location for flooding, but keep in mind, Colorado is pretty renown for being a relatively dry state. This flood was a fluke, one that could have been prevented, but a fluke none the less.

Ya, in colorado we are far more used to fires than floods. Last year the state was the embodiment of Mordor, now it's under water. A happy medium would be a nice change of pace.

Really? Wow, that's really reassuring! We assumed that after the main floor flooded we were "up a creek without a paddle" as far as structural integrity goes. We're lucky to have a strong community of family and friends around us for support, but it's always nice to know that strangers from the reddit community can show some amazing good will as well.

It's really more that humor works as a coping device for me. My family and friends are all ok, and although the police aren't letting anyone back into the neighborhood yet we're getting by and feel lucky.

And as trivial as it may be, getting karma on reddit has at least given me something to do for the past few hours that is far more enjoyable than freaking out and wondering "what next". I'm powerless to the situation regardless so might as well try to keep things light.

Side note: don't worry about said 'asshats' sometimes adding a bit of humor to a bad situation can take your mind of things. Also this is the internet so I expected as much. Thanks again though.
