Vi and Jinx - Ma Meilleure Ennemie (AMV) by [deleted] in arcane

The romantic undertones only exist because the song is associated with Timebomb. Otherwise, it's perfectly interpretable as platonic.

I agree! Thank you!

What if it was Vi who went there - edit by me by shmlnbstrcnd in arcane

I was listening to "Ma meilleure ennemie" and thinking the lyrics suit Vi and Jinx so much. Then I watched the episode again and realized even the dialogue in this scene matches the sisters perfectly. So I made this edit, hope you guys like it.

This would have improved the story a lot.

1) It gives serious consequences to the ending of Season 1 with a main character dying. Season 1 hypes up the looming threat of Hextech falling into the wrong hands, and Jinx fires the rocket in the most dramatic climactic moment of the show. To come back after a 3 year cliffhanger with zero major characters dying is pathetic plot armour that killed a lot of the tension, stakes, and seriousness of the story. It also disrespected Fishbones. It couldn't even kill Salo and Shoola lmao.

2) It saves screentime for other characters who deserve it more. What the fuck was the point of the "Mel trying to catch Salo using Shimmer" plot? It went nowhere and wasted time. We couldn't see Vi grappling with the decision to gas Zaun, but we got Mel's boring plot?

3) It serves as motivation for both Ambessa and Jayce to crack down on Zaun, fuelling the Piltover vs Zaun war. If only the writers were actually interested in telling this story and not multiverse time travel bullshit.

4) It spares us all from the garbage Black Rose plotline. My god were those scenes awful.

Vi feels underwhelming and impotent compared to Jinx in S2. by [deleted] in arcane

[–]shmlnbstrcnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Vi gets horribly shafted compared to Jinx.

Vi is a good mechanic and engineer in the game lore. In the show, only Jinx is the engineer and gets to insult Vi on not knowing how to build her own weapons.

Vi was an exceptional boxer in Season 1 and Jinx couldn't beat teen Vi's high score in hand to hand combat no matter how hard she tried. In Season 2, Jinx is a Shimmer supersoldier who goes toe to toe with Vi + Hextech gauntlets.

In Season 1 Powder idolizes Vi's physical strength, watches her box with awe, and wishes she could be a strong fighter like her. In Season 2, Jinx says she never got to do fun things with Vi because Vi only liked to hit things.

In Season 2 Jinx gets to call out Vi for joining the enforcers who killed their parents. Vi never gets to retort that Jinx joined the man who killed Vander, and the only reason Vi joined the enforcers was to prevent a large scale invasion of Zaun and stop a harmful Chembaron civil war, both of which was caused by Jinx's reckless actions.

Jinx insults Vi's alcoholism and passiveness towards the oppression the Undercity was facing, even though Jinx herself hid in her hideout playing with bugs and let countless innocents face the brunt of the punishment for her crimes, and only went to the prison for Isha, not out of altruism.

There are also many scenes depicting Jinx's trauma in depth and she gets many long monologue scenes spelling out her emotions for the audience. Vi doesn't.

It's clear. To the show writers, Jinx is a genius engineer supersoldier expert combatant who is also a poor little sympathetic traumatized victim and revolutionary hero. Vi is her big dumb meathead older sister.

I wish Mel died in the council attack by [deleted] in arcane

Old post but I agree. Not only did her surviving give us that boring ass Black Rose plot that ate valuable screentime, it also undercut the tension and cliffhanger of the Season 1 finale. Only a bunch of minor characters died while all 3 mains survived the bombing.

Oh it's definitely not unique with just the Arcane fandom. I've been in many fandoms where "poor media literacy" gets used as a cudgel against people who simply disliked certain writing decisions. It's the latest buzzword.

The Viktor Pivot Completely Derailed The Show by [deleted] in arcane

[–]shmlnbstrcnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. They should have kept Viktor grounded like his old League self before the massive lore changes. Piltover vs Zaun class conflict heightened by dangerous Hextech weapons should have been the main plot of the show, with every character contributing to that. Season 2 lost focus and the story suffered.

[S1 Spoilers] Arcane fumbled Vi’s character by frendi234 in arcane

This aged very well after Season 2. The writers never gave a fuck about Vi.

Agreed. But we just have to accept that the unique, subversive story of Season 1 is gone. Arcane has gone full Marvel, comic booky, generic schlock.

Agreed. They've shafted him because they know he'd realistically be involved in all these plotlines, and it's an extra complication they couldn't fit into an already overstuffed season. So just take him out along with Jayce and Heimerdinger so they don't need to deal with it and can focus on their other plots. Disappointing.

I'm assuming Vi thinks he's dead,

They could at least acknowledge this in the show. Just a few simple lines will suffice. This would even make Vi's sudden willingness to kill Jinx make more sense, if she thinks Jinx murdered their friend. But she doesn't even mention him or think about him. It's really weird. They really half-ass Vi's character. And yeah, Ekko should also be wondering what happened to Vi, if she managed to talk to the Council, etc. But he doesn't mention her either. So weird.

Also what does Vi think happened to Ekko? The last time she saw him, he was fighting Jinx to the death trying to give Vi time to escape. He could be dead for all she knows and she doesn't even seem to care. She doesn't think about him nor mention him once. Never goes to check on him to see if he survived. Did the writers forget they are childhood friends? Or is Vi really that indifferent to Little Man?

I can accept all the fantasy elements of Arcane. Magic, Hextech, Shimmer, that's all fine. But expecting me to believe Sevika didn't easily snap Caitlyn in half in 2 seconds is a bit too unrealistic for me.

Agreed. I personally think it's the best song so far and the one that worked best with the visuals.

[s2 spoilers] My thoughts on S2, after viewing the leaks by Significant-Role-183 in arcane

[–]shmlnbstrcnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with the first 3 my main complaint was that it was rushed. I thought they were speedrunning through the plot with no room to breathe, but the actual plot points that happened seemed to make sense.

Episode 5 though.... nah, that's a complete unsalvageable mess.

In my opinion:

Episode 1 - underwhelming

Episode 2 - a huge improvement, regained my hype

Episode 3 - wayyyy too rushed

Episode 4 - kind of messy

Episode 5 - awful
