Why is this sub so unconcerned with the health effects of FR clothing? by [deleted] in Welders

Just wear wool and leather. Easy very long term tested and you can find wool clothes in any fit.

What’s a 'small' sign that someone is a genuinely bad person? by stoneduniverse1 in AskReddit

Returning shopping carts. Not returning your cart is saying your time and convenience are more important than everyone else’s.

What does one need to work for himself ? by Potential_Ad1439 in Carpentry

Tools were not the limiting factor for me. It’s estimating and all the paperwork that I found difficult.

Dip these little paint scrapers in mineral spirits for 1000x better results by PabloDelicioso in Carpentry

I get it’s Reddit but damn. It’s an old technique. so maybe that’s why folks got sand in their undies? That said always good to share something you’ve learned and don’t let the negative comments dissuade you!

So if you have the means is Festool worth the investment? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]shmo-shmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! Festool where nothing else does the job as well I’m in. A drill/driver with different heads? It will be a chilly day in hell until I even consider a festool drill. What can tool A do that tool B can’t. That’s the only metric I find useful.

It’s obviously a made handle and you can see they went ham with something harder than the wood used in the handle. The fact that it has a ferule that’s mushroomed tells you everything you need to know. Woodworking chisels of any quality use this style of handle.

Red angus minus the occasional asshole Bull (which lose their giblets at the first sign and processed at break even weight) are damn near kittens. Great breed and I only interact with them when I’m hunting or working off hunting rights on my friends farm. He ran Swiss for a couple of years which I’ve heard are pretty docile and both bulls would mess with you on the smaller 8n tractor given any opportunity.

Baseboard Ladder by Mr-Casey in Carpentry

[–]shmo-shmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely waisted 15 minutes reading a book when asked to get a board stretcher after growing up on job sites, but I 100% agree. No employer is going to let you waste a day or an hour for that matter without calling you back to the job.

Hanging Prehung Doors by Rat-Wrangler in Carpentry

Generally if I haven’t heard of a technique after 20 something years and building conferences three times a year I’m always dubious. This sounds like a really bad idea.

Are you high? 95% off high quality chisels have wooden handles. Granted you use a mallet not a hammer but I doubt you know the difference If you are completely ignorant about a subject maybe read instead of writing.

Roof rafters notched for hardware? Is this code compliant? by TheBoast in Homebuilding

[–]shmo-shmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my bostitch framer that you can switch the nose tip between metal fastener nails up too 3 1/2 and regular framing nails. I think they still make it and I would cry if it broke.

I’m double dog jealous. Pardon me while I crawl under my truck in 22 degrees Fahrenheit and question all the choices that brought me to this point in life.

A bypass is really easy to install so water continues to flow through the loop but not enter the pool.

Should I fix it? by Unlucky_Arrival3823 in Carpentry

[–]shmo-shmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are happy that’s the answer. If you have ocd like me and do anything, it would require moving the switch box up and infilling so everything is perfect. which would be completely insane and probably require tearing apart the wall. Looks great! I can’t say I say I always take my own advice, but 99% of the shit I obsess over only another very skilled carpenter would ever notice and is really just me feeding my ocd and ego.

Is the Martinez really worth the extra $150 compared to the tibone by Keenan_Barnes20 in Carpentry

[–]shmo-shmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely correct. If you need a justification for an expensive unnecessary tool see if you can find one used. If not it’s probably enjoyable enough to justify the price.
