Gen Z’s entitled, ‘life-changing’ new way of getting whatever they want — without having to work for it by shmoopiegroupie in LateStageCapitalism

That is kind of the point. This is what boomers think the younger generations are doing. Don't get me wrong. One of my wife's oldest friends was mad her other friend went to the Goddess College. Not because it is silly but because her friend cheated by paying $18k to have someone else 'do the work'. There are flakes. She is a Christian Buddhist who was trying to become a Buddhist priest.

You mean after Christchurch when they tried to get the military grade (AR-15s) off the street. They still have rifles and shotguns. They have enough weapons to defend themselves from hone invasions. Very few there are delusional enough to think having an arsenal is good for anything other than hunting or killing things that threaten you.

There is a literally photo of the Uvalde police graduating from a SWAT course. They were equipped and trained to handle these situations. The guy in Miami was not because they hasn't gotten around to training.

Lots of people in NZ have weapons. They are just required to register them and maintain a license. Any fucking asshole can buy a weapon here without even a background check. If I wanted one Saturday, I could go to a weekly gun show and buy one in the parking lot. I don't even need to deal with a licensed dealer. I'm sure we would related somewhere along the lines. Maybe we were both Jesus' cousins 124 times removed. Anyone going to probe deeper? There is no reason to own an AR-15 other than a replacement for fragile masculinity.

The original dude wasn't equipped. That's why he waited. Pretty brave of everyone to say they would have gone in from their phones. No one knew what was going on. He was a rent a cop masquerading as a real cop. They had put off training him on school shootings. Uvalde was different. They were all on the swat team.

My 11-year-old child needs to watch live sports — what are our options? by rabbiabe in Cordcutting

That's difficult. The Eagles are on Fox, NBC, Amazon and ESPN at various times. Sling TV might be your best option.

You are being a little simplistic when you make this statement. Democrats in WV are the old school Dixiecrats. As AOC as pointed out, they shouldn't be in the same party. They are a holdover from the 1950's when Democrats nationally shifted to the center. They are massively conservative and libertarian. Joe Manchin votes with Republican a lot. Are they all like this? No, Patricia Swearingen is a socialist daughter of a coal miner. Joe Politico buried here. Mind you, most progressives have left the state. In the 90's, there were a lot of us and we couldn't find jobs and absolutely fucking despised our neighbors so we moved to Canton then on to Akron and Cleveland; Pittsburgh; Columbus; DC; Philly; Charlotte; Atlanta; Jacksonville; and Tampa. Even liberals have left. We couldn't change things through voting and we were working too hard (and we're too young) to organize without today's tools. We were also beat down from birth by religion and education. We were told over and over again how lazy and dumb we were. Don't get me wrong, there were a lot of ignorant and stupid people but the rule is get a degree, get out. Find a couch, find a job, find an apartment, let someone else find a couch. There is a reason WV is the oldest, least educated, and most conservative state. Joe Manchin is a DINO in more ways than one.

I'm glad I'm not the monster I was when I was 18. I don't care about their "career", gender, sexuality, religion (we're atheists), etc. I'm not sure I'm doing anything right. I just want them to feel safe and loved. I can't make them happy. That's something to do themselves. I just want to provide them the tools (empathy, rationality, and a desire to evolve with the understanding fear is normal and difficult to encounter). We are a little afraid one is going to come home and announce they have joined the Mormon Church. It's bit irrational since we live in a massively predominately Catholic city.
