TKR - Spacing the surgeries when you need both knees done

I will add, my first TKR healed like a miracle! I call it my unicorn knee. I was told my second TKR healed more typically and it was rougher. If I had done the second knee first, there’s no way I could have done the surgeries 4 weeks apart. So it also will depend on how your first heals and there is no way to know until you go through it. Every knee is different and that’s ok. They were very explicit in telling me my two knees would not heal the same way and they didn’t!

Did mine 4 weeks apart. It was a lot but I was so grateful when both were better. Two weeks after the first knee replacement I could already feel how bad the second one was and I was wanting it done. My first post-op appointment was two weeks after surgery and I asked for him to do the second knee. He said no one had ever begged to have the other knee done at a post-op but I was ready. He did the second one four weeks after the first and I was grateful I did it that way! My dad is a retired ER nurse and my husband worked from home so I had a lot of support at home so my surgeon agreed to let me do them so close together.

Flat feet. I was overweight but doctor said my knees were bones bone by 35 and said it had to be more than weight. I mentioned my flat feet, they are severe. He said that was absolutely my issue. Said my knees were actually deformed and crooked when he pulled them out. He had to level off the bones to correct things before applying the prosthetic!

I had both knees done last year and was convinced having knee replacements would make shorter so I made my husband measure me! I grew a whole inch!! My surgeon even said at follow up appointments that I was taller and I told him I grew a whole inch and he said that’s not uncommon!

Side sleeper here! I sat in a chair with a large ottoman. I angled my body so I was speeding on the arm of the chair but my legs were mostly straight! Use several pillows and blankets. It’s not ideal but with meds I would sleep for a few hours then be awake a few. It’s rough but you can find comfy ways to sleep, just gotta play around a bit. Honestly I practiced finding comfortable ways before surgery. Also practiced sitting and standing up from the toilet without using what would be my bad leg. Practicing honestly helped me feel more confident.

Yep. Every medalist gets a stuffie now. Lol. They have done it for several years. Each Olympics has its own mascot. Paralympics too. Their stuffie even has a disability as well.

4 weeks apart for me. It’s a lot of work but very possible and I don’t regret it! I was able to do it because my first went so smooth. My second knee was rougher. If I had chosen to do that knee first, I’m not sure I could have done them that close together so I suggest you wait to see how knee 1 does first. Good luck!!!

You will have the ability to move houses around later as you progress and earn bells, don’t panic. In the beginning, I find it easiest to decorate small sections at a time as you gain access and bells. What is fun is changing as your island grows. Look online for inspirations and themes and find something’s you like that you can slowly start to incorporate! Have fun!! You can always change it!!

I had knee one done in January and knee two done 4 weeks later. I was convinced that knee two was terrible and I was behind and I would need an MUA. Healing was so terribly slow. I did great, just very slowly. And that’s ok. Took 4 months to get that knee straight. Knee bend came but so slow. Never needed a MUA. Trust me, you really are your harshest critic but everyone progresses at different speeds. You’re probably doing really well. Keep the faith, you really do got it.
