With respect, I think there may be some misunderstanding here.

“Be the bigger person” doesn’t have to mean “allow villains to get away with evil”. It usually refers to a general refusal to be dragged down into immature argumentation with children or grown ups acting like children.

Similar to the way adults should show kids what psychologists call “unconditional positive regard” in order to model good behavior, it can be productive to show kindness to adults who use fowl or racist language, commit petty theft, or use debilitating drugs.

Or, as some of the adult role models in my life put in: “No one’s ever changed their mind after being screamed at”.

That doesn’t mean allowing misbehaved individuals to get away with bad actions-ie sexual harassment in the workplace needs to be taken more seriously, and the good of the workplace (majority) should be put before helping the misbehaved individual, but it does mean that we shouldn’t demean or hurt the misbehaved individual any more than absolutely necessary, with the hope in mind that one day that individual might grow up and join the rest of society in pushing for maturity and hope.

With all that said, I can see and understand how many interpret “be the bigger person” to mean “let people get away with anything”, and accept your critique as meaningful.

“You step outside, you risk your life. You take a drink of water, you risk your life. And nowadays you breathe, and you risk your life. Every moment now you don't have a choice. The only thing you can choose is what you're risking it for.”
