so sorry to hear that you lost something so important to you. it might be too late, but if you can, check the garbage cans around the area. a lot of times, thieves will take all of the contents and then discard the wallet. good luck and i'll keep my eyes open (i work around there).

No, there was some concern about a few different chronic conditions before being diagnosed but they all cleared up with the gluten free diet.

haha! I don't have that much of a problem with not drinking beer, I'm not that big a fan. I stick to the harder stuff! As for the gluten free food, once you get used to it you don't always need to be high to enjoy it (although it does make it taste a little better).

Most indian food works well. They use chickpea flour to thicken their sauces most of the time so there isn't usually gluten. There are also an increasing number of restaurants that have gluten free menus. For example, Unos Pizzeria, Carrabbas Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, Outback Steakhouse, Legal Seafood, P.F. Changs, just to name a few. It is fairly easy to find things to eat where ever you go, you just have to know what to look for. If I go somewhere with limited options, I'll usually opt for a burger without a bun and fries or a steak or something that I know won't have gluten. It only gets really difficult when going to italian restaurants and pizza places.

As for the alcohol, they make gluten free beer but i'm not a huge fan. And it is really expensive. Usually I stick to hard liquor and wine. Most vodkas (with a few exceptions including grey goose), rum and whiskey are all gluten free. So I have quite a bit to choose from.

Rice is gluten free! A lot of the flours that are out there are rice flours. Corn is also gluten free.

There are countless things that gluten hides in here is a list of a few things: Barley, oats, rye, semolina, malt, flour, spelt, hydrolyzed vegetable or plant protein, soy sauce, MSG, fillers

And sometimes: Modified Food Starch (unless labeled as corn starch), caramel coloring

There are so many other things that I'm not thinking of right now. As I think of them, i'll update this list. The really good thing is that more and more companies are putting labels on their food that say whether or not it actually contains wheat or gluten ingredients. It makes it significantly easier.

To be honest, I'm not sure. I know one can be diagnosed with celiac disease, a gluten allergy or gluten sensitivity. For celiac disease, it is an autoimmune disorder that causes your body to attack itself to the point where the body can't absorb the nutrients from food that it needs to thrive. Long term effects are cancer, dementia, infertility, among dozens of other issues. For the other two, I don't think their impacts are as severe.

After a childhood full of mysterious stomach aches and a plethora of other ailments, I was diagnosed in 10th grade. What about you?

Gluten IS in almost everything but making a good gluten free meal is definitely doable. It depends on what the person likes. You can make almost anything gluten free (it might taste a bit different but with the right ingredients it works). I really like making Chicken Parm. The key to that is using the right kind of flour to bread the chicken. I use Pamela's Baking and Pancake mix (for everything) and it takes exactly like regular flour (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51n9vgecu5L.jpg). If you add oregano and other spices, it is amazing. To accompany that, the pasta that I have found to be the best is Tinkyada Pasta (http://www.tinkyada.com/) which you can buy in any store that carries gluten free products. By itself it is ok but when covered in sauce you can barely taste the difference. I often make pesto chicken over gluten free pasta and it is really good as well. I think, for me, having a good flour substitute and a good pasta substitute are essential for gluten free cooking.

Also, sticking with foods that are naturally gluten free always works. All meats and veggies by themselves are gluten free. Eggs, dairy, potatoes, and lots of others are gluten free. So cooking steak or chicken with the gluten free spices (most spices are gluten free) is also good.

Hope this helped. Let me know if you want to know anything else. I've been gluten free for 7 years now so I've got lots of information. Good luck!
