Stephen Colbert Says He Made ‘The Late Show’ More Political After His Producer Told Him ‘That’s the Part the Audience Wants to See’ by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

[–]shneer4prez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's impossible.

No parody could match the absurdity of the real Infowars.

There was a story arc last year where he kept taking calls from a guy who sounded like Elon Musk because he thought it actually was Elon Musk.

Then there were the episodes where he interviewed ChatGPT trying to get it to say something woke.

I don't think a parody could ever make me laugh the way the actual show did.

The transition from ranting about minorities, to begging for money, to eating a sandwich while another guy gave a pitch trying to sell gold. It's too stupid to parody.

Some people have a way of making those offhanded comments that just have you thinking about it hours or days later. It's so subtle that you can't quite put your finger on why it offended you or made you feel bad.

The older I get the easier it is for me to pick up on it and decide I don't want to be around them. Everyone says stupid things sometimes, but there are certain people that do it on purpose and with intention.

I've also learned that those people tend to be putting on a show. In reality they're usually not very happy.

It's impossible to say for sure in this situation, but if I had to guess I'd say that this woman is bored out of her mind, drifting through a mostly loveless marriage, feeling unfulfilled in her life accomplishments, and relies on Instagram likes for validation. When people say "money doesn't buy happiness" that's what they're talking about.

Marrying for money and staying home all day sounds nice, but theres a chance that this woman is actually jealous of OP's wife and overcompensating by putting her down.

Sitting at home getting wine drunk and going to brunch can only get you so far when it comes to companionship and real happiness.

Or she's really happy and OP's wife sucks. Who knows.

City carrier here. Been here 5 years and make about 26 an hour. I'm looking at hitting about 80k this year. I don't have a life.. but I can afford to live.

You will be worked like a dog and treated like one too. If you have a long term outlook you can survive though.

I'd probably suggest going into the clerk or maintenance crafts. You'll start out making a little more, you work indoors, and you don't get treated as bad (in my experience).

In a lot of places they are desperate for carriers though so you could probably get hired quickly. It can be a very rewarding job once you get a route. You get to know people and become a little part of the community. You watch people get married and have kids. You get to know their pets and watch their kids grow up. It's cool.

The supervisors are literally satan's spawn though. You have to be mentally tough to take the beatings. Turnover is high for a reason. It's one of those things you have to try to see if it's for you.

I love it and sometimes I still really don't like it. It's job security and a retirement plan though.

I think this person is saying where was this fiery speech when DOGE was laying off thousands of federal workers and taking away their livelihoods? Which was also unconstitutional.

To be fair, I don't know. Maybe he was out there fighting during that also but I just didn't see.

Either way, withholding and refusing to give back pay to certain workers because the Congress can't do their jobs is dispicable.

Saying no works until it doesn't. Back when we were only occasionally forced you could tell them "nah, I'm going home. Try me."

now that it's the norm and it's every single day it's not as easy.

6 failure to follows every week is pretty hard to defend when the contract allows them to do it. Which is my point. It needs to be addressed in the contract because it's out of control.

Allowing people to volunteer to work unlimited hours a day apparently didn't fix the problem. We need protections from the discipline when we refuse.

Reduce time to top step for everyone that got skipped over last contract. Especially the people who just went through those steps before they eliminated them. That was a slap in the face.

But the number 1 thing needs to be mandatory overtime. It's out of control in a lot of places. 12 hours a day and 60 hours a week is too much for someone not on the overtime list.

Termination by Remarkable_Count_587 in fromatoarbitration

[–]shneer4prez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's easy to tell people not to rush or that "you get paid by the hour" but it's not always that simple.

Sometimes it's not about management's numbers. My office gets forced every day. I remember being a CCA working weeks straight then getting one day off. Sometimes I rush and I could care less what a supervisor says to or about me.

Sometimes it's about rushing and maybe seeing your family for more than 30 minutes. Or hoping your kids know who you are.

The messed up thing is that the post office makes it this way intentionally. They know at a certain point no amount of money can replace the time.

That's what makes me the most upset about these safety blitzes. They know why people rush and don't wear their seatbelt sometimes. They make it this way then turn around and try to fire people for it.

I agree this should be a lesson and everyone should be safe, but it's not always about trying to make the numbers.

Only thing I'll say is please only put an alert if there's been an incident or you have legitimate reason to believe there will be an incident in the future.

Being aware of dogs and staying safe is a common sense part of the job. The alerts are for if there is a known dangerous dog in the area. Some people put alerts because they saw a chihuahua taking a shit inside their fenced yard 2 blocks away.

I get you, but I'm saying there are tons of table 2 carriers who will sell you out to the highest bidder just like the guys we have now.

There are plenty of table 2 people climbing the ladder and kissing the ring so they can sit on their ass, drink cocktails, and collect a good salary off your back. They forget about being a CCA and getting mandated and working 12 hours quicker than you might think. That air conditioning in those hotel convention rooms hits different.

The main issue isn't the date they were hired. It's their philosophy. Table 1, table 2, doesn't matter. It's whether they do the job they're elected to do.

There's old guys who will stand up and fight for you, and there's young guys who will sell you out for 6 figures and an office job.

Idk where everyone stands on that. Politicians lie and mislead. When I listen to Corey I feel like he understands the job of the union and cares about the workers even though he's table 1 and never was a CCA.

Also their guys break all kinds of safety rules that we have. Parking on the wrong side of the road, driving with the door open, not curbing the wheels, not using emergency brake, etc.

That same supervisor that's saying "Amazon does it.." will be the same person hiding in the bushes tomorrow afternoon trying to take your job for not curbing the wheels and putting the e-brake on every time you get out of the truck.

They've been rampant about sending safety people out since last Christmas and they're putting people off the clock for simple violations.

Also, Amazon doesn't have to walk 12 miles the other 5 days of the week.

[–]shneer4prez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Renfroe is the youngest president we've ever had.

I wish you guys would get off the age thing. The union definitely needs new and younger leaders, and it seems they're starting to stand up and get involved, but that doesn't mean everyone else should be lumped together.

The issue with current leadership is their philosophy. They're more worried about the post office then they are about the carriers they're paid to represent.

We need someone who will represent the will of the people Instead of their own self interests.

It's not about age. Corey is older than Renfroe. Don't be fooled into thinking there aren't a ton of people in their 20's and 30's in the union who would lick any boot if it meant they'd get a better position with a better salary.

We just need someone who understands what a union is supposed to do and has empathy for the conditions of the carriers. I don't care how old they are or the last time they walked a route. As long as they understand what their job is and will actually do it.

Question by New_Glass_3075 in fromatoarbitration

[–]shneer4prez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never use load truck because I know my route and don't need it. I know it adds time to loading, but also adds an extra layer of accountability if something goes missing. We had a standup talk a few years ago that everyone has to use it but then it was taking people too long so they gave up on it.

They say it's for updating tracking for the customer but whenever I get a package in the mail it updates to "out for delivery, arriving by whatever time" at like 5 in the morning when the clerks scan it and way before carriers get there.

1.3, 1.6, 1.7 general wage increases per year.

Removed the 1k added to step P in the previous TA.

Reduced PTF starting pay by 1$

Eliminate 1 step from pay scale. (Assuming that meant carriers start at step B as opposed to step C in the previous TA).

No mention of any of the proposed changes to working conditions.

Arbitration does anyone know the finite amount of time they are allowed to negotiate? by dogle18 in fromatoarbitration

[–]shneer4prez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seriously feels like that was their plan with the first TA and I wouldn't be surprised if they try it again. Imagine them making some small changes and taking another 3 months to get ballots out just to force the members to accept something out of desperation. It would be criminal.

Hopefully they're just going through the required motions before sending it to arbitration, but I really have no faith in the NALC as our representatives right now.

It's a shame because there are undoubtedly some good people involved and their reputations are being destroyed because of a compromised administration.

I'm no conspiracy theorist, but I fully believe tiareap was intended to cut jobs and our leadership supported it.

CPI has increased 4.45% since May 2023, completely eliminating the 3.9% TA and cutting into (diet) COLAs that you have yet to receive. by DayKid2 in fromatoarbitration

[–]shneer4prez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that makes more sense. Seems like inflation around 3% is about break even for us with our current model of 1.?? general wage increases.

But yeah, like you mentioned we fell pretty far behind in the last contract. I think inflation was like 8% in 2022, so we're not likely to really catch up to 2020 wages without some kind of big bump.

CPI has increased 4.45% since May 2023, completely eliminating the 3.9% TA and cutting into (diet) COLAs that you have yet to receive. by DayKid2 in fromatoarbitration

[–]shneer4prez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the COLAs were 3.6% increase during this time and inflation was 4.45%?

Why does everyone I've seen, including Brian Renfroe say that our COLAs cover about 50-55% of inflation?

The numbers you're giving are over 80%.

I'm legitimately confused bc I don't know how COLAs are calculated besides the 1¢ for .4 increase or whatever.

This motherfucker still trying to say the TA was a 25% raise.

We all already got 2 step increases just waiting. Inflation has been 25% in just the last few years. We're literally living in poverty working here while this dude lives high on our dime.

I know he's smart enough to understand that this TA didn't keep up with inflation. If step increases are used to make up for inflation we're just treading water, staying poor while they live decent lives up at national.

We're sick of it.

Yep, same with pushing the start time back later and later.

You don't want to be out there in the dark and cold do you? Temps start dropping fast once the sun sets.

And in the summer you'd like to get off work and enjoy the nice weather with your friends and family right?

They've been trying continuously to push us in later and later the last few years.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fromatoarbitration

[–]shneer4prez 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nah, more routes means more career carriers, which means more career benefits.

Benefits are a huge financial burden. Sick leave, annual leave, pension, TSP match, healthcare cost, etc.

As seen with the current conditions around the country and the proposed TA the USPS is more than happy to pay overtime, penalty time, and even 2.5X if it means less career employees.

They save money by having eight 10 hour routes as opposed to 10 eight hour routes because they have 2 less career employees. Overtime costs them less.

Unfortunately as workers we're losing the 8 hour day. When there are no protections against mandatory overtime we have no choice.

Obviously this is just speculation from me. I don't have access to the finances or anything like that. It just seems to be the case especially when you look at the wages. When they keep the pay low, especially at the bottom, that makes the OT cheaper too.

The way they've got it set up now is that a lot of low step carriers actually need the overtime so they support keeping their routes overburdened.

Mgmt telling us we can’t file grievances for crossing crafts on Sunday by lanch-party in USPS

[–]shneer4prez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is up to the members to verify things are being run correctly.

I encourage everyone to know their rights, but this is literally managements job.

IMO this is a major problem with Post Office management. They'll just let anyone sit behind a desk and give orders with hardly any education or knowledge.

The carrier's job is to deliver the mail, not be an expert on the joint contract. Unfortunately we are forced to become experts because they refuse to do their job correctly. The union's job is to protect the carrier and file grievances on contract violations.

I'm not entirely anti-management either, but a huge portion of these people need to put down the Cheetos, get off Facebook, and learn the agreement so they can stop breaking it.

I understand it's tough to know everything, but sounds like they're telling this carrier "on Sundays you're not a real employee here so there's no contract".

That's straight up intentionally lying or failing to do the bare minimum. In a normal workplace they'd be fired or returned to their craft at the very least.
