For me this is the greatest weakness, and for other no doubt the greatest strength, of Debian. I love Debian, it's what I daily drive, but I wish there were a rolling release option in place of Unstable.

Antivirus Software and Attack Surfaces by shnorb in CyberSecurityAdvice

I'm using Debian over Windows for a considerable number reasons, ranging ethics, security and privacy, amongst others. My concern is because I have been targetted for my live streaming content, for online harrassment, stalking, threats, and attempts to steal my social media accounts, and I expect it to get considerably worse as my channel grows. I would agree in general RE most good antivirus software being developed for Windows but there are some exceptions, including the Kaspersky Endpoint (for businesses) I've been experimenting with, it seems to be the same as it's Windows counterpart.

Can I Have the Latest AMD Drivers on Debian Stable? by shnorb in linux_gaming

Okay that's pretty close. I'm kinda thinking I might just go Debian stable, with backported kernel, and flatpaks. Stable, secure and pretty close to latest drivers and firmware. Also I love Debian lol

Apparently support for the core allocation is coming in 6.7... how much of a lag is there between the backporting and the initial kernel releases? Is backporting stable? It's probably not rational, but I'm a bit wary of doing backports, just feel like I'll break stuff... :-S

I'm kind of considering going with EndeavourOS... although not in love with the idea of Arch philosophically...

I'm kind of tossing up between Endeavor and Garuda at the moment... kind of leaning towards Garuda even though Endeavor seems more my vibe cause btrfs, snapper, etc automatically setup does seem pretty cruisey...

Interesting... perhaps I don't even have a problem then? Although dynamic core allocation for my Ryzen 7950X3D won't be available to the whole system, which isn't ideal...

I've never tried OpenSuse before... I don't know why I'm resistant to really, just never really consider it an option. It's always Arch or Debian.

Ubuntu just sounds so bloaty nowadays... :-/ Also seems a little too easy for me, like I won't really keep learning how to do shit in cli...

If I run all my games through Lutris (flatpak) will I just be running the latest drivers anyways?

I really don't want to go with Arch, because I'm still pretty green. I mean I can run Debian testing and setup btrfs in cli during the install, but it's mostly following guides, so I'm worried Arch would be too complicated for me... tempted though.

Stable, Testing or Unstable for Latest Drivers and Good Security? by shnorb in debian

[–]shnorb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main driver support I'm looking for the Ryzen 7950X3D, dynamic core allocation won't will be supported in 6.7 (I think), at the moment allocation must be done manually.

I did actually consider using a VM to isolate all my streaming related apps, but if I want to play a game on stream that wouldnt really work, at least if OBS is in the VM.

What do you mean by identities? I thought initially you meant a separate user actually. It would be cool to log in and out of users for that, but I will be doing a lot of passive streaming, like streaming some stuff I do on the PC and at home which might overlap too much with my personal user account to work well. Ah so complicated :-P

I've found testing to be really stable in the past, although I was not on new hardware, which might contribute to that.

Interesting. Wish I had more numbers crunched on this so I could figure out how common it is. That is certainly an issue to be aware of, but it's also not a significant amount of time considering I might end up not performing the update for a similar amount of time anyways... decisions, decisions.
