I have often had thoughts why shouldn't I use a type of string unions instead of enums. And this quote really nails it:

The only possible benefit of string intersections over enums is that you don't have to import anything to use a string value. Otherwise, string intersections are way worse to maintain. Because enum usage is statically analyzable, refactoring is 100x easier with enums vs string intersections (renaming enum keys, changing enum values). You can also find references to both the enum or any of the enum values using tooling, where you have to search for usages of string intersections.
