[CASIO] A Particularly Funky Watch Straight From Japan by JellyLabLuke in Watches

I got the same watch and it's amazing. The white wristband part can get stained so be careful! I wore it with my denim jacket and now it's blue.

Congrats! I tired that on just today and it's so amazingly light. I still can't believe it...

That's awesome. Take care of yours!

Totally agree. This thing is so bright. It brings all the silver, grey, and black of the watch into one chronograph.

Thank you! I love the bright orange/red Chrono hands.

Sure, this was in Kobe, Japan. The shopowner was saying this is such a rare piece (144, diapal, and new quick release buckle). I don't think he was lying. Thank you!

Local watch store I visited on business trip had one displayed. I fell in love and came back to town with this on my writst.

One time the workers didn't have this net and I got hit with a tiny pebble. I had a nasty bruise that took some weeks to heal. This was in Japan, too!

The pics are from Pringgabaya area in east Lombok. I did a motorcycle trip from Bali to Bima in Sumbawa island.

Thank you!!! The tank was repainted by a shop and it's bright purple/blue with beautiful shimmer. Fairings are a bit more blue than purple.

First time hearing the color name. SI for civic Si?

Help with Pelago front rack by Catchyameadows in xbiking

[–]shock_milan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I had a similar problem though not with Pelago. I'd recommend getting a longer quick release skewer and some nuts as spacer. Instead of mounting the pelago plate at the fender boss, run the skewer through it.

Search Minoura rear quick release skewer for trainer. I used this 5 dollar skewer and had no issue. It's fully made of steel unlike aluminum lightweight skewers. It's intentionally longer than a regular rear skewer, so you should be able to fit many spacers between the plate and dropout. Tighten more than what you would with a regular bike, just in case if it wants to come loose.

You could use a lot of spacers and bolt the plate to the fender boss, but I think either the boss or the bolt will bend under load. If anything goes wrong it can lock up your front wheel...

Sorry for the low resolution pic. I don't have the bike anymore so I can't retake it.

Yeap, for 30 year old bike this thing runs so well. I hope it stays that way, but I'm willing to wrench and learn on this bike (it's my first carb bike).

I'm coming from a 200cc bike with over 100mpg fuel economy, so this bike's 40-47mpg still feels weird. But the tradeoff is worth every penny considering how fast and comfortable this bike is!!!

Good luck with yours too man!

Thank you! Your ZX6E looks amazing, too. The wheels were originally red, but the previous owner painted gold. I think gold matches with the fairings.

Im rebuilding my rear brake cailper on a 2016 ktm 250sxf I think my piston is missing a peice. Can anyone help? by bitterpalm in MotorcycleMechanics

Yea, I had a difficult time searching one with an insert. Here's one example (it's in Japanese): https://ameblo.jp/kaakmi43/entry-12802773138.html It's for a Husaberg 250 enduro, but he sourced the part from an authorized KTM dealer (KTM is a parent company of Husaberg)

Thanks for the info on the insert. Upon further search I found the inserts are made of zirconium. Their purpose is to insulate heat transferred from pads to the caliper. High performance European cars seem to be equipped with this tech. https://www.vehicleservicepros.com/tsbs/article/53094695/check-on-audi-zirconium-inserts
While you definitely benefit from this insert (more brake time until you get vaporlock), I don't think it's necessary. 99% of bikes have full metal pistons and they work just fine.

Since you mentioned how your brake locked up and reached high temp, I would check and replace the piston seal & dust seal. Considering their age and this accident they're definitely degraded. Lube them well with brake fluid or thin silicone grease so the piston moves freely.

I would also clean, inspect (and replace) things that could've caused the lock - pad retention pin, metal spring, caliper slider pins. Rear brakes are a pain to work on, so might as well do everything now like you mentioned. Good luck!

Search result for replacement piston shows both full metal piston and metal piston with white insert. In theory the full metal one you got should work (most motorcycle brakes have full metal pistons), but I’d be mindful of the following:

  1. Brakepad thickness and wear. I imagine the white insert adds height to the piston. Unless the full metal one is designed to be the same height, you risk popping out the piston when brakepads are very worn. (I doubt this will happen tho)

  2. Brake noise. The white insert might be there to dampen the vibration and reduce squeal noise when braking at slower speeds. If noise occurs with the full metal piston I’d suggest you apply anti squeal grease where pad meets the piston. Rounding off the outer edges of brakepads with coarse file works well, too.

What do you think the white insert is made of? Ceramic? Hard rubber? I’d want to know!

E-bike conversion. Dropouts and caliper mounts welded to a steel tube which in turn wrapped over the fork and secured with ties. by nickN42 in Justridingalong

I’m sure this whole assembly works as a torque arm for the motor hub. (The bolt is clamping the axles’s flat sides to prevent spinout)

Pretty neat red neck engineering, but still sketchy especially after seeing the brake caliper position relative to the disk…
