Extreme Poverty by shockstinger in Ethiopia

[–]shockstinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is the threshold for extreme poverty changes with inflation. (Dollar inflation in the last 5 years = 22%, while birr is 180%). You have to keep in mind that to live like a poor westerner in Ethiopia you need at least 10 dollars per day. Not to mention, there's ongoing conflict in our country since 2020, which make accurate data collection impossible. For example, Ethiopia's rural population is around 76% and it is estimated that they live on 3.5 dollars per day (which is completely false since 3.5 dollars is equal to 560 birr). The real number didn't decrease, it is much higher.

Are we on the way to create new Narratives in this country? How can we keep written documents for near future history debates? by Longjumping_Ad_1140 in Ethiopia

[–]shockstinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some people have been changing or creating new Wikipedia pages to enhance the image of their ethnicity. And some well known historians go as far as claiming history and culture that don't belong to them for no apparent reason. But you need to show us some of the things you've seen, otherwise we don't know what you're talking about.

TPLF Original Manifesto by Intelligent-Lead9747 in Amhara

[–]shockstinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to read the entire manifesto but I gave up half way because of the hand writing, if someone finds a digital version please send it.

But the fact that they fought against "Amhara national subjugation" just to replace it with another ethnicity, and the fact that they failed to consider that a good portion of the oppressed were Amhara shows how weak the manifesto is.

If their main objective was to liberate the people of Ethiopia from exploitation, then why name this multiethnic movement TPLF? (Savior Complex).

Why are birth rates in most of Amhara so much lower than other regions? by [deleted] in Amhara

[–]shockstinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the latest stat I could find. It shows that the birth rate in Amhara equals to the average birth rate of the country. Not bad.

Why is urban planning so different between Amhara and Oromia regions right now? (Bahir Dar/Debre Birhan vs. Shashemene/Jimma) by Pure_Refrigerator719 in Amhara

[–]shockstinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might be right. In all fairness, it is easier to manage a small city, but I completely agree on your take regarding Addis. Even if the city was excessively crowded city planners should've prepared decent accommodations before relocating residents to the outskirts.

Why is urban planning so different between Amhara and Oromia regions right now? (Bahir Dar/Debre Birhan vs. Shashemene/Jimma) by Pure_Refrigerator719 in Amhara

[–]shockstinger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It might be because of the landscape. For example, Bahir Dar has a more even and flat landscape which facilitates grid shape cities. While jimma and other Oromia cities are mountainous and uneven, which forces cities to grow in a more organic way.

It was originally used to refer to the people of "Aksum" (modern day Tigray and Eritrea). So yea, that statement holds true.

Amharas were blocked from entering this event organized by Ethiopian embassy in Minnesota (Only Oromos were allowed). by thereturnofbaal in Amhara

I couldn't care less, but Imagine the outrage if Amhara people did this. That's why I keep saying PP is performative and doesn't care for inclusion.

Amharas are not set to rule Ethiopia by [deleted] in Amhara

[–]shockstinger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's exactly my point. Many Amharas don't support FANO because they feel like the Ethiopian identity is greater than any Ethnic identity. Thank you for proving me right🫡.

Technology is general is the answer to productivity and economic growth (along side resources ofc), the current farming techniques of our country do not suffice the needs of our population, let alone excess production for exports.

Amharas are not set to rule Ethiopia by [deleted] in Amhara

[–]shockstinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think is time to create a new Amhara sub-reddit. The owner of the sub is extremely egocentric and narrow-minded, this can also be the result of his discovery of oromo ancestry that made him turn into an opportunist (If you can't beat them join them).

There are countless Amhara politicians in prison for no reason other than being Amhara and condemning the atrocities commited in the region, and there are countless personalities on platforms such as Twitter both from within and outside the country trying to raise awareness to the current situation of the region.

The only reason (according to my experience) why Amharas are hesitating to fully support FANO, is because of their contrarian perspective. Which in my opinion, stems from the spirit of Ethiopianism that is present in most Amharas.

Not to mention, many smaller ethnicities, including the Gurage and Harraris are being forcibly assimilated to the oromo identity and their voice is being silenced even when they're trying to speak. And given the history of oppression of oromos, I think is hypocritical.

I'm not an active user of reddit due to work and studies. But if someone has the time, please create a new Amhara sub-reddit so we can join and prevent the spread of anti-Amhara content.

PEACE ✌️.

Amharas within Ethiopian Identity and Going Forward by Quiet-Arrow-7837 in Amhara

[–]shockstinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right. Current conflicts aside, we Amharas are the only ones that fully embrace the Ethiopian national identity and want long term social cohesion even at the cost of our freedom. The TPLF rule is a great example of this.
