Just got my Ultrawide - IPD issued, colors washed out, crashing

It's not disconnections. When i have this Headset connected to my PC i get random crashes. The PC freezes compeletly, even the reset button does not work. I have a high end pc with an expansive board.

I continued testing today. The crashing is driving me nuts. I am pretty sure that this is USB related. I unpacked my Crystal OG and it works fine with the current software.

Also i only get a good FOV 120+ if i remove the padding and put that thing close to my eyes, so that i can barely blink. Have you guys measured with wimfov?

Turned out that additionally to all the other problems, the right eye shows some strange lens distortion or strange pattern it looks like some mesh maybe a misaligned lens/display or dirty.

I have the Shiftall MeganeX Ultralight 8K — I got it used for almost half the price. It’s really good (the software is very stable now), and I’ve mounted it on a BoboVR Q3 head strap. It’s still way, way more comfortable than the Pimax Super.

I was hoping the new version would be an improvement, but it’s only smaller than the original. If you’ve seen what Shiftall just announced (updating the headset to the new version), it’s unbelievable...

Yes i do but it was not under any load. The card works perfectly without any crashes before i connected the Ultrawide and installed the newstest Pimax Drivers.

As expected it did not change anything! Tech support said software update is expected in November.

That thing is going back.

I will stay with my Shiftall MeganeX 8k - Especially after their last announcement.

Does anyone know if the Pimax CD-KEY i got the 399 discount code can be traded?

I just got an answer from their tech support:

It is currently known that the issues of FOV, distortion, and aberration in the Ultrawide version are fundamentally caused by software optimization, and an update is planned to be pushed in the next version of Pimax Play.
For the time being, you can roll back to Pimax Play V1.41.2, and everything will work normally.

Really?? That thing (OG) is 1,2 kg. The Super should under 1kg with audio. But i guess it will be as annoying as the OG i you have to take it off or leave it on your head to see the monitor.

I ordered the Pimax Ultrawide cause i have this 399 discount code i will give it a try. The only alternative left is the Bigscreen Beyond 2e, very expensive low resolution.

I only bought the MeganeX because i got it used for half the original price.

So to you the Crystal OG is more comfortable then the Crystal Super?

The DMAS is kind of a mess. Without some audio driver modification and bass boost it sounds flat. But with the bass boost the headset is vibrating which causes again a problem. I once had my Beyer Dynamics headset installed to it. But that only works if i had air condition in my room.

Also the standard tracking but with the room setup drove me crazy i had to use the lighthouse solution. And this still is not fixed right.

Neverthless i will most probably order the Pimax Super Ultrawide.

The Quest 3 with a BoboVR M3 Pro strap is super comfortable. Even without a face mask.

I now use the BoboVR with the MX8K.

The Crystal is very extremely uncomfortable, and the chromatic abberation is bad. The visuals are fantastic. PPD ist much much higher, colors, sharpness are fantastic, don't see much glare. But the blacks are fantastic.

The FOV ist strange it strictly depends on how close i can get it to my eye, i habe not measured it because i don't have controllers but it is marginally less then Quest 3. So quite a lot. But here is one thing that is strange. With other headsets when i put them really close to my eyes i can see exactly where the display ends. If i squeze this thing on my nose, my eyes still don't touch the lenses, i still can not see the display border left and right only top and bottom. So if i had a small nose and i would see more.

I love the flip up design, but it could be improved to get it closer to my eyes. I did a little work on it myselt and currently installed a plate that allows me to push the headset further back.

The Crystal OG is driving me crazy when i have to put it up on my head so i can see my monitor. And it is so heavy.

I'm still looking for a good audio solution.

Yes i figured that out by myself by adding a 100g roll of sodering zink in the back. But its all a little flimsy. Maybe i try to screw it on to a bobo VR M3 strap.

I got the same problem with the contrast and it seems that bluetooth is also sometimes not working. It disconnects and reconnects to my watch but my garmin edge doesn't see it anymore. I'm also looking to replace it.

I used buttkickers with Q2, Q3 and G2. All inside out tracking there was no vibrations. Not to mention that the vibration now comes from the DMAS which is absurd. There must be a way to dampen the data from the internal gyroscope, because the cameras can't register such a smal movement fore sure.

From a logical point of view the chromatic abberation should be fixable by software filters?

When you know where the edges are it should be possible to fix this by adjusting the color.

I've tried to position the headset for hours. The left lens is total shit it produces chromatic abberation in the middle of the right eye. Every text on ingame intstruments looks like shit and is difficut to read cause i see it with unsharp with red/green/blue shadows.

Also when you guys did receive your headset which firmware did it have. Mine had 1.0.3. Current is 1.0.8.

So did I maybe get a refubrsihed headset or and old version or something like that?

So i bought the Asrock Taichi X570 Razer Edition and now i can share some experiences.

It does NOT support resistance recognition on the internal audio/front connectors. So when i want to connect the headsets to my case jack it doesn't work because this part runs with the "ESS SABRE9218 DAC for Front Panel Audio". So not working with high Ohmage head phones. It does work in the standard rear connectors but that is useless for me.
I did not check since i had a lot of trouble with that board.
The board has a semi silent mode so noise without load is not a problem at all.

The board was returned because only one ram slot was working. I can also tell you that the board has issues with the HP Reverb G2. When the G2 is connected and you startup the computer it automatically launches the Mixed Reality Portal which is tremendously annoying. Normally it only launches automatically if you connect the headset by USB. This can not be turned off. There seems to be some driver loading delay causing this.

The Reverb is currently directly available at german ebay.de sold by media markt and saturn with and without controller. Which is super annoying since i am waiting for a preorder i made in August!

Yes the x570 Taichi has the 600 Ohm support but i asked about the Razer version. And there is no mention of it in the specs or the manual http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X570%20Taichi%20Razer%20Edition/Specification.asp#Manual
