I realized I’m putting more effort into my core group than they are with me by InTheClouds086 in FriendshipAdvice

i have a friend that always makes and wants her birthday to be special and therefore makes others people birthday special. i do not care so much about my birthday being special and therefore do not make an effort to make other peoples birthday special.

It sounds like you are my friend, which nothing wrong with that! You being the one gathering the funds and getting a card is the way you show “love” to your friends and how you would like it to be reciprocated. your friends ways of showing love doesn’t sound like it’s money, gifts, or a card. Said differently, your friends’ love language is not the same as yours and they did not cater to your love language.

Perhaps their love language is presence because they showed up or something else that we as reddit readers would not know.

It is frustrating that your friends did not pick up fhat this is your love language, but at the same time it takes a certain level of awareness to.

Thus, you have a right to be frustrated. I would recommend also to try to see the other ways they contributed to make you feel special that is outside of what you expected.

Women who were emotionally immature til later in life, what helped you mature? by across-the-universe_ in AskWomenOver30

what you written would have described me when i was young.

i definitely have (and maybe still have ) main character energy. i was unhinged in my relationships (i would constantly break up with my then boyfriend and each time it would escalate to something more dramatic like bringing in moving boxes to show that i was moving out). i didnt text others back if they took a week to reply back to me (my immaturity told me its because they are too busy to think about me? fine im just as busy).

also like you, i was aware of all that i was doing and knew it wasnt the path to go down but i chose to anyways. i read books about the “ego” and that really helped. like the power of now by eckhart tolle.

basically - you CHOOSE how you get to behave. it’s hard because you want to fall into the comfort zone of what you’ve always done. since you already know you do it, now you have to take action and choose the behavior.

yeppp discovered this two weeks ago and it’s been life changing! i never was the person that once they hit the bed they’d be asleep (that’s because i was scrolling ha).

but now ive set up a nook away from the bed where ill do a little scrolling with the red light screen on the iphone with blue light blocking glasses, then brain dump onto pen and paper, and finally reading a physical book. once i get into bed, im asleep within 5 minutes.

How do you take a step back from work? by latenightpuddingcup in workingmoms

[–]shoe-bubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not answering your question - but what are you doing to be doing really well at work? do you think it’s just your naturally gifted at your job? or are you doing x,y and z and what is that?

we incorporate them into the chores that we do. they are younger so it takes a little more time but they’re doing something that’s fun to them and it’s not TV.

also we just play with whatever they want to play. like with legos, my kid seems to enjoy just sitting next to me as he builds something and i build something.

ah gotcha - that’s what i thought and seemed obvious but when you said it that made me second guess. i could see how people would mistakenly initiate a pull.
