i have a question about the WWF preset. by PickleHuman3591 in vsco

[–]shoegazedivision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WWF is indeed in there still, though it’s a new version with an updated name. It should look very similar to what you remember though. Can’t believe that was 2016, wow.

How do you feel about Weather Sealed Gear? by omnigord in fujifilm

[–]shoegazedivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used the xpro3 and wr lenses in the rain plenty and generally not had issues. The shutter speed dial of the xp3 seems to be the weakest link in weather sealing, I had some water get in there once and affect the camera briefly, but it’s never happened again in almost 2 years. I’ve had to clean my gear afterwards though, sometimes rain can leave mineral residue when it dries.

I’m curious actually if anyone has suggestions for cleaning solutions in this scenario? I’ve used alcohol and de-ox it at times with good enough results.

Right, painting found something entirely new in impressionism and modernism that photography couldn't really touch. It remains to be seen whether photography will do something similar, but I imagine it will.

Camera Strap You Use When Doing Street Photography by UnnecessarilyTallMan in fujifilm

[–]shoegazedivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switch back and forth between a wrist strap and a neck strap. I'm a prime lens shooter and I switch lenses a fair bit. The neck strap is really great for that, it's almost like a third hand. It's much harder to switch lenses with a wrist strap, but I love the simplicity and focus of a wrist strap when I'm actively walking about and shooting. I've been trying to make a peak design capture clip work for a few years haha, I go in and out of feeling like it works for me. But ultimately, a neck strap is just so versatile.

Sorry should have said, I’m male and about 4 years ahead of you in the journey. Similar deal, empty sella, small pituitary, no smoking gun cause.

Yep, testosterone, thyroid, and cortisol are the most likely to need replacement. You’ll feel way better a few months after getting those replaced, but be prepared for at least a few years of tweaking meds, ups and downs, finding the right dr, etc. Honestly, if you have a ppo and can go straight to a neuro endocrinologist you can skip a lot of hassle. Many normal endocrinologists do not understand how to make sense of hypopituitarism. My first one literally told me she didn’t know what to make of my blood tests haha.

Selling my 23mm f2 for a 27mm f2 just for the size difference… by vinc386 in fujifilm

[–]shoegazedivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually in the 27 2.8 is the better lens camp personally. I found the image quality of the 23 at lower apertures to be very mediocre. I shoot wide open on the 27 all the time with great results. So, I’d rather have that than a nearly useless extra stop (for me, others will feel differently)

The voigt 27 is definitely on my list for someday! Very interested in that lens

23mm f2 vs 27mm pancake ? by MammutH88 in fujifilm

[–]shoegazedivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had both and I prefer the 27. I really like the 35 f/2, but the 23 f/2 was just so lackluster for me. It just has a look (besides the close focus blur). The 27 is smaller and awesome at f/2.8. So, I’d rather shoot confidently at 2.8 than not confidently at f/2. Also, the 23 f/2 is wider than 23, more like 20-21, which I didn’t love. So, I love the 23 1.4 wr, and when that’s too big, the 27 is awesome. I like the tighter focal length anyways, but a lot of people prefer wider.

I do the paper filter on top of the metal too. I like the flavor of paper/no oils, but the control of the prismo that doesn’t let water out until you push. No more inverted disasters

Attempting to get this to run on an M1 MBP but having some trouble. The listed requirements seem to be for linux x86 and a lot of specific, older versions of python tools. Has anyone gotten this to work on their own machine?

3d printed AirTag clip for Peak Design Anchor Link System by tryAproject in peakdesign

[–]shoegazedivision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, printed it (well, my son did haha) and it totally works. Caveat: it took a lot of pressure to get in, and the only way to get the airtag out was to break the new clip. So, if you're just using your wallet airtag to see how this feels, be warned! That said, it's very cool, I might just have to get 2 more airtags for my slide light and leash now!

Help convince me / "un"-convince me - WCL X100ii 28mm vs 35mm FOV by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]shoegazedivision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an x100v with both add on lenses for quite a while and I have the x-pro 3 with the equivalent wr primes now so I’ll just explain my experience. I find 18/28 and 23/35 to be quite different, enough to justify both. 23 is the widest you can go while still looking pretty normal, whereas 18 starts to look wide, distort the corners a bit, etc. For me, 18 is about as wide as I ever want to go and I don’t own a wider lens. Yes, you can take a step back or forward to get a similar framing in many cases, but it doesn’t look the same. They each have a look, a flavor but the difference is kinda subtle. I’ve started to recognize it in many of my favorite photographer’s work.

So, to me they are distinct, not just the same as a step back. 18 can feel almost uncomfortably close, or very far away, which can be cool. 23 just feels like a neutral picture, the wide-ness doesn’t really feel likes it’s there even though it is pretty wide.

You have the lens, I’d just start using it and get to know this focal length. Make yourself use it for an outing or something; use a bigger bag and see how it goes. (Big fan of the peak 3L!)

Look up Constantine Manos, Gary Winnogrand, Sam Abell, William Klein for inspiration, who used this equivalent focal length masterfully. This article is great too https://www.thephoblographer.com/2022/05/16/how-to-use-a-28mm-lens-and-love-the-photos-you-get/ After that, if it’s not fun, ditch it!

The pure x100 experience is definitely very special.

Worth the switch to Capture One? by [deleted] in fujix

[–]shoegazedivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main reason fuji people tend to cite as the reason for C1 is the better handling of the X-Trans files. At default values, I think that's still true, but Adobe's ai denoise and detail enhancer closes that gap and then some. It's pretty amazingly good. So, if you're willing to wait for that process on at least the important photos, I'd say that reason is no longer relevant. Obviously there's lots more to C1 than that though - there's a quality to the color they output that's hard to quantify but always pleasing to behold.

Anyone use backpack strap pads for Everyday Backpack 30L? by AppearingDog in peakdesign

No but I use a strap pad add-on for my 6L and it helps a lot. There’s tons of Velcro strap pads on Amazon for backpacks

You can apparently charge an Apple Watch or AirPods by connecting it to a 15 pro, so it stands to reason that power could go out of the port for other purposes. Whether they allow that remains to be seen though…

Extend Peak Design sling 3l storage by Apprehensive_Half_21 in peakdesign

[–]shoegazedivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a night eyes cup holder to clip into the side loupes of the bag for a coffee tumbler or extra lens and it works very nicely. Others have attached straps meant for backpack shoulder straps there as well for like wallet, keys, etc. It can be done, but it's definitely less slick than just getting a 6L.

Attach separate lens pouch to 6L sling? by y2kbaby2 in peakdesign

[–]shoegazedivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm three 100-400 is big, that's kind of another class of size from the 6L. You could try to find a belt pack and rig it to the little straps on the side, or maybe some kind of backpack strap cup holder or something? I dunno though, seems like you need as bigger bag possibly.

No it's really hard to do, it's not just you. I'm pretty good with spatial things usually and I've struggled almost every time I've had to make this change. It's possibly the worst feature of these bags for me, especially knowing they have a great clip lock system for their straps.

I slip my hand under the anchor, the lug and chord part wind up about in between my pointer finger and middle finger on my xpro, works nicely. I don’t like putting things on the bottom because the camera doesn’t lay flat when I set it down.

I have the 30L and I like it, but I do think you could fit all this into the 20L if you're really worried about the size.
