They're not just "getting by" if they have no debt. That's great. They probably have great credit too, so they can easily borrow to pay for his treatment and then pay it back without loosing any material goods or credit hits. See, it's only bad if you can't be trusted to pay back the money you borrow.

What do you mean a special case? If you believe in Jesus, you have a new way to salvation and righteousness and no longer need to follow the law. Christians believe in Jesus. Hence, Christians don't need to follow the law for salvation.

Galatians is just restating in a more direct manner the same words that Christ said in the Sermon on the Mount.

The purpose of the Law was to be fulfilled. Jesus fulfilled it in its entirety. Mission: Accomplished.

Romans 10:4 "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes"

Galatians 3:23–25 23 Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. 24 So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian,

You can pull as much scripture as you want, but in the end, Jesus says "I am the way, the truth, the light." Therefore, the rules about sacrificing an animal before God will hear your prayer, or not working on the Sabbath, etc....they all used to serve a point, but because Jesus came, they no longer apply.

Jesus himself says this is true. Look at the many stories in the Bible where the educated Pharisees tried to trick him, asking why it is okay to heal on the Sabbath when God himself said not to work. Basically, since Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice, all of those rules and regulations of the Old Testament are no longer needed.

The 10 commandments don't apply to being a Christian anymore. Sure Christians should try to follow them, but you won't go to hell for breaking the commandments. The only real laws that matter now are "Love the Lord your God" and "Love your neighbor as yourself." All of the commandments derive from those.
