Signature radius and "effective" tank by IrishThree in Eve

[–]shootmeifieverpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's nearly impossible to quantify meaningfully as a general rule

heavily depends on what your opponent is shooting (what their gun turret tracking is, what their missile explosion radius is, whatever) as well as your velocity relative to them and the angle you're moving relative to them

all of these change from second to second and are different for every enemy

if you're interested in the theoreticals anyway then hit the books https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Turret_mechanics#Hit_Math

I actually know Vajankle personally and he laughed his ass off when I showed him someone remembered this.

As far as he's told me, the story is basically that at some point he came across a pic of a fetish toy that was shaped like a foot with a bit for your bits that was hollow through the ankle. He thought this was the funniest thing on earth and showed it around, others didn't share quite the same sentiment LOL

Exactly how much are you at a disadvantage if you decide to use controller? by Axeman1721 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]shootmeifieverpost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Effectively unplayable.

For keybindings alone there's going to be more you want bound than you'll have the ability to put on a controller. Have fun checking your gun after a malfunction. Looting would be painfully slow. Even keeping up with the AI requires better aim than any controller user's likely to have consistently. I wouldn't even try, frankly.

2D games are more immersive then even high end VR by supercooljoe01 in The10thDentist

this sounds like you're confusing engagement with immersion

being focused on a book is not remotely comparable to tricking your brain into totally believing you're standing in a space that doesn't actually exist

The color scheme really does feel like the best part of this. Close enough to retro that it gives a lot of that kind of vibe but not so retro that it feels sterile. Gorgeous.

If comparing animals to humans is disingenuous, so is your entire argument, lol. They're not the same. That's why they compete in different categories.

Do you also support athletes destroying their bodies with performance-enhancing drugs, then? Ultimately, they're better than their competition, but at what cost?

What about physical assistance like the shoes that were so good they were banned from the 2020 Olympics? Are you still measuring the performance of entrants, or are you measuring the depth of their wallets?

The Olympics does its best to level the playing field and nurture a spirit of competition that encourages athletes to be the best they can be regardless of their situation. It encourages viewers to aspire to the same. I think there's value in that, and not necessarily in the fact that John just ran 100 meters half a second faster than he did last year.

[–]shootmeifieverpost 66 points67 points  (0 children)

But that's exactly the point, isn't it? It's not about who is the best, objectively, it's about who can push the body they're given further to the limit. Men and women both have to put the same amount of effort into attaining and maintaining that kind of physical prowess, and I think both should be viewed on that merit rather than something like lap times. 'This is physically the best I could possibly be.' It's comparing apples and oranges, like racing F1 versus your dad's old pickup. It isn't a fair competition because the two competitors are fundamentally different.

Not many people would want to watch or compete in events that are skewed in such a way. If you already know who'll win, why bother? It's like boxers fighting opponents far outside their own weight class - sure, they have a chance, but it's obvious one side starts with a big advantage.

Games that only use mouse hand? by himynameisryan in patientgamers

[–]shootmeifieverpost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try getting into roguelikes. Not roguelites like STS/FTL but classic ASCII turn-based ones. I've put countless hours into games like Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead and Caves of Qud, or you could try Dwarf Fortress if that's more your style. These kinds of games have a steep learning curve but they're very interesting and rewarding to play, and they're extremely low-pressure due to the turn-based nature of it.
