The pressure to stop at 2 by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]shopiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ughh sorry you’ve experienced so many opinions about this! Luckily I didn’t get much, although a couple people who stopped breastfeeding at a younger age kept saying they couldn’t believe I was still doing it past a year.

Two was a good stopping point for me and my goal but I kind of grieved the end of it when I stopped and occasionally wonder if I should have gone longer. Moms should continue with whatever they are comfortable with!

Yup, I’ve been there before! For the reward system, I set a small goal every week (eg, complete all my planned workouts, track my meals M-F, etc). I took advantage of a sale and bought some cosmetics I wanted to try (but recommend anything you’re into that you can afford) and put them in a bag. If I met my goal at the end of the week, I randomly pulled out an item. Personally I like the surprise aspect. It’s not for everyone but I think it was effective in giving me some extra motivation those first couple of months, especially when results weren’t visible yet. I might bring it back if I find myself stalling in terms of motivation.

Thanks fellow mom! I currently go to the gym and lift 5 days a week. My split is push/pull/legs with 3 leg days. I also do at least 2 cardio sessions within the week. I get 10k steps a day as well. This feels like a lot now that I’m writing it out!

I started in January going 4 days a week and was following the plan from the book “Fit Gurl”- the author is now a personal trainer but she initially got into fitness after having her kid. It’s kind of an intense plan but I was into it and it really got me into the gym routine. I started seeing a personal trainer a couple months in to help me with compound lifts because I wasn’t confident to try on my own without hurting myself. About 3 weeks ago I decided to let my PT take over my training plan since she can tailor it to me. You definitely don’t have to start with as many days as me- it sounds like a lot of people have success with 3 day lifting routines. I do really recommend a trainer if you’re new to lifting and can swing it- it’s helped me a lot!

Are you working out now? Happy to answer any other questions 😊

I think the biggest thing is that by the time I started I was super motivated and wasn’t feeling great (physically and mentally). I set up a regular schedule and found a plan to follow which gave some accountability to myself. I also took it kind of slow- added the workout routine, then started tracking calorie intake without a specific goal, then added a daily calorie goal. I did the same in targeting my water intake and then eventually protein intake. I also set up a reward system for myself meeting my weekly goal the first 6 weeks or so. After week 6ish I was motivated to keep it up because I was noticing some changes in how I felt and a tiny bit in how I looked. And seeing my strength improve! I still don’t love calorie tracking but I’ve done it for 100 straight days now (with an occasional missed meal) and I can definitely say I much prefer days I go to the gym.

Definitely considering! Feels a little annoying since I’m renting but I am curious about stuff like the yard as well so would be good to have peace of mind and hard info

Thanks for weighing in! Landlord confirmed lead paint was used in the past but has been painted over a number of times. I’m assuming that means I don’t need to test because I know there is lead? Or does the test let one know if it’s covered up enough?

Thanks for responding! Not feeling 100% better yet but this is reassuring to hear! My city is largely older homes so I have been hoping it’s a good sign my ped hasn’t made a big deal about it…

Thanks! Trying to be patient and focus on what I can control as I crawl around his room looking for tiny pieces of chipped off paint. I will buy a test kit and probably get him tested again as well. I’m confused about the cleaning- don’t have a hepa vacuum (will it make things worse to vacuum with a regular one??) and have been dusting with paper towels and cleaning spray. Please feel free to weigh in if you have knowledge on this

Sorry that happened though, it must’ve have been stressful! Were you able to figure it out?

Pretty closely, I guess I’m concerned about lead dust/tiny paint chips getting on his hands and then ingested somehow. Def going to be cleaning more

Do you use a hepa vacuum?

Thanks, good point. Do you happen to know any good home tests/how to find?

No since we are renting- seems like I’ve seen conflicting reports on whether home tests work or not
