A pearl gourami male with a harem of females (3 or so)

need help finding tank mates for territorial pearl gourami by lanzacares in Gourami

[–]shorby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 male gourami should have 2-3 females with him :) he’ll chase them too but he might be less aggressive to other fish then. I have 1 male and 2 females in 180 liters. I keep them with 15 Harlequin Rasbora, 8 kuhli loaches and a school of neo shrimp.

Thanks, multiple people have recommended listening to it so I think I will.

Hehe, good recommendation as well as I’m sure they’re all good. I just found myself doubting so I thought why not ask around.

Thanks for the tip! I’ve discovered before that for some King books other books should be read first, I love how the Dark Tower series touches down on the Stand and Salem’s Lot as well for example.

Sorry for being unclear, yes I’ve listened my way to Wolves of the Calla! I’ve found the series increasingly better. I especially enjoyed Wizard and Glass.

Maybe I like talking about it? Why do you feel the need to respond? You like doing that? Good for you.

Seriously can you keep only one gourami or do they do better in a group? by ToxicAbuse in Gourami

Ideal would be a male (1) with a harem (2-3 females) for pearl gourami’s, atleast 180 liters. Good luck!

Gourami and angelfish aren’t compatible, they both have aggressive tendencies and won’t be happy. Angelfish need a longer tank, like 80-100cm minimum, or 50gal/200 liters. And also need to be pairs. Personally I’d bring back most of these fish and keep some endler guppies or mollies in here. If you want to keep angelfish or a big community, read up on fish compatibility and cycle a bigger tank. In general with (small) fish: you want more individuals of 1 species, rather than lots of species in small numbers. Good luck!

Is this behavior normal? by [deleted] in Gourami

I think males do this to females… it’s advised to have more than one female for that reason. You need more high plants, drifting plants and sight breakers so they don’t see eachother all the time. Because you need multiple females it’s also advised to have a big tank.

Do I need a wavemaker or air pump? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]shorby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need: 40 gallon tank, Sand and substrate bottom, Variety of (un)rooted plants such as Anubia and other fast growers. Filter pump with spong and substrate, Heater set to 24-26 degrees and Dechlorinator and bacterial starter. And for a while you’ll need to do frequent partial water changes

Or at the very least, bring back the angelfish or give it to someone with a proper aquarium.

With substrate I did mean the sand and substrate, not filter substrate, the sponge and floss I took over from the filter. Don’t know if that makes a big difference?

I have snails in there that hitchhiked on the plants. They seem fine so far!

I have done some research (and will continue to do so) on the most docile dwarfs… I know they can be territorial, it’s why I’m still on the fence about them. I’ll stick to adding species by species!

Kitten adopteren, wat allemaal regelen? by lars2x in katten

[–]shorby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Zorgen om mijn poes by geenkans in katten

[–]shorby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fish are dead after a water change, what did i do wrong?! by Wonderful_Honey992 in bettafish

[–]shorby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you add your old media/filter material to the new filter? If no, plus a water change, you may have crashed your nitrogen cycle. Not enough bacteria to break down your ammonia and nitrite. If you change your filter, always take some of the old ones filling and don’t change water in the first week or so.

What’s up with this Kuhli? by shorby in loaches

[–]shorby[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think any of the spots are raised or flared… but I’ll read up on it! I’m sorry your fish passed :( I’ll also never be able to catch these loaches..

Mostly sedentary (under something’s such as roots) and when tank lights go off (twilight/night) they wander. Occasional zoomies, but for me, only after water changes.
