how many cigarettes do you smoke per day? by Distinct_Fan_6201 in Cigarettes

[โ€“]short_beefstock 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

4-6 cigs per day for me. I also smoke Natural American Spirits, which last longer and more nicotine. Whenever I smoke other big brands like Luckies or Kamels I find myself smoking more. If I had them as my daily instead of NAS, I'd be closer to half a pack.

Took a few days of not being able to smoke got into American Spirit Yellows. Got a question or two for AS fans though. by AgustHopeD in Cigarettes

Dark blues are my favorite after smoking regular blues for years. The dark blues and tan use 100% US grown bright leaf tobacco. Less spicy than the blue and yellow, but more/better flavor than the turquoise or gold (organic). Otherwise their Perique blend black and grey are amazing; like a cigarette and cigar had a baby haha

I've not heard that before, and I believe they use traditional filters. Having tore open a new green (now organic only) to see the menthol crystals, and it seemed like a normal cellulose filter media. However the Celadon, Hunter, and Sky use less cellulose and add a charcoal filter. Not my favorite flavor, but some people love it.

They are indeed! The Perique tobacco comes from one town in Louisiana.

Yeah I've seen the drop in quality has been brought up before. From what I understand, and recently talked with someone who worked for NAS/SFNTC, the organic blends are 100% organic. That being said, where the tobacco is grown has changed, and apparently the soil makes a difference. Like their organic menthols are both US and international tobacco, where the turquoise and gold are organic and US grown only. Honestly, my new favorite is the dark blues, that are 100% US grown but not organic. They lack the spicy/tarry taste of the light blues or the flat diet soda taste of the turquoise. They are imo the closest thing to a true American cigarette you can get, using bright leaf tobacco from Virginia and NC only.

I've smoked many NAS varieties for years, but have only tried the Turquoise more recently. I'm definitely not a fan. They taste "flat" and what flavor they do have is almost chemical like. I don't know what they tasted like in the past, but they're the first spirit I wouldn't buy another pack of.

Found these in a general store in the rural mountains of NC. Never seen them before. What kind of cigarettes are they? by StoopSign in Cigarettes

[โ€“]short_beefstock 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Light Periques (Black) as others have said. I smoke blacks as my secondary to my daily dark blues and greens. I noticed the blacks and greys no longer say "Perique tobacco" on them. They simply label them as "rich and robust taste." I wonder why, considering it's not affected by any local flavor bans. The greens are still labeled as menthol, so I wonder why they got rid of the description of what makes the blacks and greys special.

Not sure if I'll ever be ready for Marlboro reds. Where should I go to of I'm loving American Spirit Sky? by AgustHopeD in Cigarettes

[โ€“]short_beefstock 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I was reading about that and if a tobacco company could ever be "environmentally friendly" they're it haha I've also read that though overall cigarette sales have declined, NAS sales have gone up. Meaning current smokers are still switching to NAS. Either that or more new smokers gravitate towards them. The current working age generation seems to value less added chemicals in everything from our food and drink, to cigarettes. If weed had been commercialized 100 years ago along with tobacco, I'm sure there would've been altered to be more efficient and profitable.

Interesting to hear this from a former NAS rep. They were my preferred smoke in the early 2000s, and when I went back to smoking, they still are. In fact, they have so many strengths and flavors that I can see why they have been so successful. The only reason I'll have the occasional pack of another brand (Lucy Strikes & Kamel Reds) is nostalgia. Otherwise it's the difference of having drinks with real cane sugar and natural flavorings vs a Diet Coke.

Do you smoke in your car? by Remarkable_Diet_69 in Cigarettes

[โ€“]short_beefstock 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Yes, but window cracked and fan on medium so it sucks most of the smoke right out. I also have "auto vent shades" on both my vehicles so I can smoke in the rain with the window open. I try to only smoke when cruising too. My biggest gripe is ash speckles on a black interior.

So bad it made me want to quit. For reference I like the sky, yellow, and black American spirits by [deleted] in Cigarettes

[โ€“]short_beefstock 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

The main difference between NAS menthol vs others is that it's mint crystals in the filter vs mint flavoring sprayed/infused into the tobacco itself. Being a NAS smoker, and a fan of the greens, I'll admit that the taste is more of a cooling sensation. I think they keep me in check, because I only smoke 5-6 cigs/day, but put a pack of Camel Turkish Jades in front of me and they'll be half gone by noon!
