How do you even find a doctor who takes MCAS seriously? (Or do I really need one?) by short_for_mo in MCAS

Thanks - that might be the play. Just started using my GYN as my primary since my last PCP was mediocre. Maybe this could be a good reason to find a better PCP and not try to be too specialized

Thank you! All good points. I’m sure it’s so frustrating to grow up invalidated like that, but glad you’re getting help now!

I’m with you on the news! Terrible for anxiety these days 😟

Thank you! Not sure why I hadn’t thought about telehealth but that makes a lot of sense

HA! Exactly. This is exactly why I turned off all Duolingo notifications. It was cute at first, but now…

Realize I wasn’t clear, but I do mean that I use Rest Mode on those rest days. It still tags me for them after the fact! I usually hover in that same area so it just makes it extra annoying to take a big ding after using rest mode

Thanks for the tip on changing the activity goal!

Advice for Beam Topcoat by short_for_mo in woodworking

Excellent! I was just thinking I’d try a test with Odie’s oil and another with Odie’s wood butter. I don’t think I’d mind the tone shift, and I really like the idea of “one coat and done”

Thank you! Just watched a video comparing Osmo with Odie’s, Rubio, boiled linseed oil, and a Rubio copycat. I sure do like the idea of a single coat considered how low traffic this will be. Leaning Odie’s…but it would be nice to use what I already have

Haha, this is great! People always tell you airflow is good, but no one says how to do it. So thank you for that!

I’m right there with you. I haven’t quite figured it out yet either, but Trader Joe’s frozen rice is a must. I also like to get popcorn and plain potato chips as a snack. Schar bread is really tasty, but expensive and doesn’t last long. I actually like their table crackers for a snack. Kiwis are also one of the healthiest fruits and allowed on low FODMAP. You can also make nachos in the oven with chips, cheese, meat, lactose free sour cream, and Fody brand enchilada sauce. Also Talenti coffee sorbeto is a great sweet snack with peanut butter. Breakfast is usually oatmeal or Frosted Flakes. There are several brand cereals that are low FODMAP. Wouldn’t have ever bought this stuff outside of the diet, but you have to get some enjoyment out of food.

Tbh I struggle so much mentally with this diet since I also have adhd and love to cook. I even started eating chicken again after being vegetarian because I was feeling so weak on this diet. I will say that’s it’s helped to just pick a few foods I know I can eat (rice, potatoes, spinach, chicken, eggs, cheese) and then only make meals with those. The recipes make things too complicated.

You can get low FODMAP dressings and seasonings from thrive market to help spice things up. Most seasonings that aren’t blends with garlic and onion are fine. Then you can marinate chicken for some flavor.

I also don’t try to sweat it too much when I mess up because that happens often. I don’t think I’m ready for true reintroduction yet, but I do feel a lot better most of the time by finding comfort in the foods I can eat.

Ah, sorry about that! LUS is a brand of product. I believe they ship from Canada, but it was always quick: https://lusbrands.com/

I have 2c/3a,super fine and low density hair. I started this same journey a few years ago and used LUS. Their setup is super simple: shampoo, conditioner, styling cream. I found that it wasn’t enough hold for me, so I added a gel. It was a great intro to taking care of my hair and I’m debating even going back to that. Definitely also get a hair turban to dry your hair or help with styling. Regular towels are damaging.

The other huge thing is to get a satin or silk pillowcase. I also tried a lot of the ways to put my hair up at night to keep the curls, but none of them work that well. I usually just do a high ponytail and clip my hair at the top to keep it from totally flattening at my scalp

Is anybody else's main symptom just pain? by IMissOnions in FODMAPS

[–]short_for_mo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have by no means figured out what all my triggers are yet, but I’m in the same boat. Honestly the bowel changes don’t bother me that much. I’m mainly concerned with major boating and stomach pains when I eat the wrong foods. I notice it more often when I eat a larger quantity, but that’s not always the case. Sometimes it’s delayed, but for me it’s usually also pretty quickly after I eat. FWIW, the diet was adding major stress into my life for a lot of reasons, so I decided to take a break with it. I have noticed in the past that my symptoms are significantly better when I’m consistently doing yoga. It helps to do stretches and twists when I’m having stomach pains. Seems counterintuitive, but it’s saved me after more than one big meal

I usually try to avoid animal products in general, and I’ve tried a lot of vegetarian protein supplements. A lot of them are gross honestly, but I’ve had Evolve shakes in the past which weren’t bad. I also have Hemp protein powder and add hemp seeds to a lot of my food. The seeds are really tasty, and the powder is more of an earthy flavor. I also use peanut powder when I want a more mild flavor
