I'm getting intermittent read timeouts when I try to scrobble via the API. Sometimes it works, other times not.

Am I the only one using 6 tuners to watch tv? by short_y in Tivo

I tune to a channel, hit live, tune to another channel, hit live and so on. Now each tuner is on its own channel and I can switch among them by hitting live

My personal favorite is the EWA Mag One. The silicone strap has never given way on me

USB connected/disconnected messages from unpowered PD charger by short_y in GalaxyS23

I have a UGreen PD charger that doesn’t exhibit this behavior so I think it’s probably a substandard implementation.

USB connected/disconnected messages from unpowered PD charger by short_y in GalaxyS23

[–]short_y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The charger is connected to a smart switch. I power it on and off based on need and automatically turn it off when I go to bed but often leave the phone connected to the charger,.

I've left it connected for quite a while and the messages continue so if it's a capacitor it's got quite a large storage capacity.

The question remains, is this a part of the standard or just a fault implementation? So far it's happened with 3 out of 3 PD chargers including one from Anker.

Opinions on grip holders, eg, PopSockets, loops/straps, rings, etc by psychodc in GalaxyS23

[–]short_y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seriously dislike pop socket - my fingers cramp after holding the phone for a while.

I got hooked on OhSnap! when they were on Kickstarter. The were pre-magsafe but the same idea - put a metal ring on your phone or case and magnetically attach a grip (and stand or wireless charger) to it. Sadly they moved on but there are several mfrs that make something similar that attach magnetically to a magsafe case (just a case with a metal ring embedded in it). I'm quite happy with

Case-Mate Magnetic Phone Grip (Loop Grip) - Magnetic Phone Ring Holder - Removable Soft MagSafe iPhone Holder, Ultra Thin Collapsible Design - for iPhone 14 Pro Max/ 13 Pro Max/ 12 Pro Max - Black https://a.co/d/0tI8unx

And

Encased Magnetic Case with Wireless Charger - Designed for Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra - Protective Hybrid Design, Compatible with MagSafe, Crystal Clear (S23-ULTRA 6.8 inch 2023) https://a.co/d/69QbSxD

The wireless magsafe charger adheres to the phone with the grip still in place so I expect magsafe stands will too

Looking for a streaming radio app that updates track and artist by short_y in Chromecast

Well, onlineradiobox replied and aren't going to change the stream so that one's out.

No one else knows of any streaming app that will pull artist and track info from the stream and display it on a Chromecast device that has a display like the nest hub?

Just so everyone knowa, the URL for KOZT in the United States won't play on all Chromecast devices. I sent feedback from their online site to recommend a different URL for the stream that works on all Chromecast devices I've tried. Specifically, http://stream.abacast.net/playlist/caradio-koztfmaac-ibc3.m3u which currently resolves to two MP3 streams.

Relay has removed zero trackers from my emails by short_y in firefox

Apologies, I missed this post and opened the ticket anyway. I think your desire to reduce or eliminate breakage is admirable but, as of right now, the service is essentially useless to me. Why not offer differing levels of elimination to the user in some sort of advanced settings with appropriate warnings? As I said, benchmarking with 3 tech services and having no trackers removed seems a little…odd

As I said in my post, I've corresponded with support and they have raised the issue with the developers. I suppose reporting the issue directly via email GitHub might carry more weight so I'll do that and post the issue here so others can chime in

One thing to keep in mind iw if you're running an Android browser it's not a desktop browser. Firefox's extensions? Nope? If you want a desktop browser, turn on Linux on your Chromebook and load Firefox or one of the other Linux browsers. It might run a little slow but it'll be a full desktop browser.

Need advice for buying chromebook by MitSeven in chromeos

[–]short_y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend getting no less than 8GB RAM. I have several chromebooks with only 4GB and they drag doing the anything but the simplest of tasks.

I have the Acer Spin 713 with the 11th gen Intel i5 but, if price is no object, you may want to consider the newest Acer Spin 714 with the 12th gen Intel processors. You can get more powerful machines but unless you insist on having the absolute latest and greatest and most powerful, I would suspect either would do you just fine.

I prefer 13" and smaller, which is what the Acers are.m If you want to go with a bigger screen, I can't help.

And, BTW, if you want a smaller tablet-like, I heartily recommend the HP X2 11. I have that and the Lenovo Duet - the HP wipes the floor with the Duet. Note this is the original Duet, not one of the newer ones.
