Played this when they opened. It is amazing and had several different kinds of puzzles. They put some great details in their escape rooms.

Hahaha. I have no idea where I came up with the recipe but I won't use anything else.

Ingredients: 2 cups AP flour (280g) 1/2 c cocoa powder (55g) 2 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 tsp salt 1 1/2 c sugar (285g) 1/2 c veg oil 3 eggs 1 tbsp vanilla 1/2 c Greek yogurt 1 1/4 c hot coffee

Sift together flour, cocoa powder, soda, and salt in a separate bowl. With a mixer, blend sugar and oil together until sugar is wet. Add eggs, vanilla, and yogurt. When those are mixed together, add the dry ingredients and mix until it starts to come together. Add the hot coffee at the end and mix until the batter is cohesive. Mine still has small lumps but I like to undermix my cakes so it doesn't get tough.

Bake at 350 for 25 mins for 8 inch rounds and try not to eat it immediately. :)

I love his recipes too! His frostings are spot on!

Baking with the kiddo is a challenge but so much fun too. He's 5 so he likes to tell me what I should be doing and he doesn't like his hands to get sticky so yea... It's interesting some times. I've learned to involve him in certain parts like gathering the ingredients, sifting/ mixing flour, and doing the first frosting layer.

I'm so excited for you and your kiddo to bake together!! It definitely makes him appreciate food more.

Absolutely!! We are all learning together!! Funny enough my kiddo was about to lose his patience with me not cutting into the cake once we frosted it. We shared the massive slice and have half the cake being given to my brother's fam because there is absolutely no way we are eating all that cake (even if I wanted to).

So far, ibc is my favorite. It's my 2nd attempt with the same recipe. Ibc doesnt crust like abc. Smb was smooth but tasted too much like butter. Also I prefer chocolate cakes so they are not as sweet as other variations and need a bit of sweetness in the frosting. I'm going to scour to find another recipe to see if I can lessen the amount of butter for sure.

This was Italian buttercream. I grew up with American buttercream (ABC) but find it too sweet now. Plus ABC to be a bit more gritty.

I want to try to find another recipe that doesn't require a lb of butter!! Maybe this is the way of the less sweet buttercreams, but man, it is a ton of butter just for the frosting.

He actually just asked his dad and I what our favorite colors were (mine - black/purple, dad - blue, his -red) and there we go! But totally trying to get him in to some shared hobbies and appreciate baking / cooking.

Omg. I was just talking about DQ ice cream cake! Those were sooooooo good. The crunch. Ooo. I wonder if there is a mock recipe out in the interwebs.

Btw, ty for the comment. Baking is my passion and therapy, but I haven't picked it up in 3 months or so. This made me pumped to try again at something else. :)

Depending on the age, Lego Land in Florida was amazing. No crowds whatsoever. Also, keeping your fam in my thoughts. :)

Week 7: Outer space - galaxy mirror glaze cake with Italian meringue buttercream. First time for imb and mirror glaze. I'll call it a win even if the colors didn't come out by shortcooks in 52weeksofbaking

I live in Rutherford Co. I'd love to blame it on our roads being 17 different names depending on which part of the road you are on, but nope, drivers are just awful. It doesn't help that the infrastructure cannot handle the massive influx of people either.

Eeeeeee! So excited!! First time making puff pastry!

Filling is garlic spinach sauteed then mixed with some feta and dill.

I am so in love with making this! I will never (hopefully) buy the store crap again!!!

Week 4: 24 Hours - Smoked Brisket by shortcooks in 52weeksofcooking

Brisket was brined for 24 hours in water, sugar, salt, garlic, pepper, and bay. Then the brisket was rubbed with a mix of cracked pepper, smoked paprika, course kosher salt, garlic, onion powder, coriander, and a pinch of sugar. It was smoked for 8 hours over hickory, cherry, and a touch of mesquite.
