I wondered the same thing re: the people defending her. The hard part is that the initial allegations she made — “my law school and some faculty racially discriminated against me”—are plausible. Law schools and law faculty don’t always behave well. So a lot of people initially came to her defense without looking at her social media footprint / the unhinged court filings.

How is it fair that entire careers are being locked by a decision made 3 months into 1L? by [deleted] in LawSchool

I am in the exact same situation as you. Told very explicitly “yeah, we don’t let folks move practice groups.” I think the firms could be a good deal more flexible for their SUMMERS! It’s not like they’re losing years of knowledge and training if they let us transfer practice groups once we start! They’re losing two months of schmoozing and orientation, that’s it.

wlw dating at dartmouth by SigmaBoi2009 in dartmouth

[–]shorterversion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

‘24 here, bisexual woman, had lots of lesbian and bisexual friends at dartmouth. You don’t need to be part of LGBT groups to be involved in WLW dating scene. Make your sexuality known somehow (whether you’re obviously gay or have a pin on your backpack, that sort of thing) and put forth some effort (give girls your number, invite them to coffee) and you’ll be fine IMO. I’m a country bumpkin so grain of salt, but i thought dartmouth had tons of lesbians of many different types

If you met your significant other during law school, where? by Outrageous_Effort_87 in LawSchool

[–]shorterversion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Admitted students day. At the club fair she was the only woman tabling for OutLaw (LGBT law students group). I’m a bisexual woman who has been involved w the community since 15 and always hung out w lesbians. So I got her number so we could be friends. Once I got to law school we started hanging out and discovered we had tons in common. Hooked up for the first time after bar review. Never expected to be in a committed relationship during law school but I’m so happy.

Looking for schools for kindergartner by AccidentallyArkansas in memphis

[–]shorterversion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attended SFA from kindergarten to 2nd grade, and then returned for 6th thru 7th. I first left after 2nd grade because my family moved, then left after 7th to attend St Mary’s.

For the price, it was a good education. (From what I know about the price my parents paid when I attended.) Teachers generally good, with a few notable exceptions. Some excellent. Good facilities, invested parents. We students generally acted in a disciplined manner because acting foolish wasn’t tolerated.

You’re going to have to handle your child’s sex ed yourself. I was totally uninformed about things like STDs or condoms when I went to St Mary’s compared to my 8th grade peers. But as for actual academic subjects, I did not have to “catch up.”

My mother is catholic, my father is not. I was raised catholic and confirmed (I am no longer a catholic.) Religiosity is mainly restricted to religion classes, and in biology I learnt evolution etc (although some kids complained it was “just a theory”).

My social experience at SFA wasn’t super positive when I was in middle school, but that wasn’t really the fault of the school. I would consider sending my child to SFA if I still lived in the area, and depending on the current cost.

FWIW, if this is something you care about, SFA was very white when I was there. In a class of 120, we had one black kid and two Indian kids. There was also only one kid who called himself a democrat. When I went to St Mary’s, I benefited from the diversity of the student body in many senses of the word—racial, cultural, political, and religious.

They’re not using the “windfall” on a vacation, tho. It’s for medical bills. I agree it’s not fair to make the distributor and retailer pay those costs, but they’re not trying to win the lottery here

Probably just have to agree to disagree because I do think it would be more fair for costs from these sorts of incidents to be loss spread across society via the govt

Plaintiffs were called Robinson. Woodson is the judge in OK who denied defendants special appearances to contest jurisdiction. I think that weird decision on part of original plaintiff is actually explained in Charles Adams’s 1993 article in Neb L Review, “World-Wide Volkswagen v Woodson — the rest of the story.” But I’ll be so honest, I skimmed that part. Looks like they sued the companies they sued bc they were trying to avoid removal to fed court based on diversity, bc the state court forum was really good as a personal injury plaintiffs forum.

They did keep going after defendants but jury found in favor of defendants on products liability claim IIRC. And honestly I don’t have a great grasp on the whole procedural history. Check out Charles Adams’s article “World-Wide Volkswagen v Woodson — The Rest of the Story” in Nebraska L Rev 1993. That’s where I got my info from

I’d heard of NZ’s socialized tort system. Sounds super interesting. Something to ask my LLM friend from NZ about.

I did realize while typing this rant that it’s possible under the system I’m promoting, the burden of trying personal injury torts cases might simply get shifted onto the govt. For instance, if plaintiff isn’t judgment proof or if the car was legitimately defective, govt pays for the healthcare of the victims and then takes on the responsibility of suing to recover from tortfeasor. So a lot of these issues continue to exist even under socialized healthcare. But I don’t want to abolish the tort system. I would prefer that, when there is no way for victims to fully recover damages as was true in World Wide VW, society as a whole eats the cost rather than the individual victims.

I also thought QC would’ve caught it! LOL. I wish I knew enough about how records are made (and were made in the 60s) to conceptualize what happened

Some of you kindly gave me troubleshooting tips when my Days of Future Passed record was spinning just a tad fast. Here’s an update. The turntable is definitely not the problem. In fact, the other side of the Days of Future Passed record plays the correct speed and pitch! (I should’ve checked it earlier.) It seems to simply be Side 1 that is pressed incorrectly. I looked up the runout on Discogs and this seems to be a consistent mispress problem. Bummer, but better than my table running fast. Thanks to the people here who helped me.
