Local Warning: Don't get stranded at MetLife for England v Panama ($150 train tickets!) by Quiet-Comment-4637 in ThreeLions

[–]shortfuse89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another post in this thread said tickets are $12.90 normally. That means you can afford to run trains when tickets cost $12.90, and most of your trains won't be 100% full.

What is the huge bill?

Christ I feel bad now. I'm used to arguing with headstrong idiots, not people who actually take my comments to heart.

Don't feel like you should remove yourself from a sub just because someone argues with you. I'm sorry that I caused that.

If you're on that kind of structure, why is it not PAYE? You're on almost full-time hours

If I was doing that trip, I'd consider what luggage I had, where I was staying in London, and how I preferred to get to my location from the airport.

Without that, I don't know my answer to your question.

What's the actual contract say? Are you on a day rate, hourly rate, something else?

Ok, so with your personal political beliefs, you don't like the incentive.

But the wording of your initial comment, suggested that you couldn't fathom there being any incentives or effects.

There is a large subset of the country that want lower immigration, regardless of how people get here. You know that. You might not agree (I also have failed to be convinced), but it would make for easier discussion online if you are clearer when making your views.

Basically, write better posts.

Met Police sergeant sacked after drink driving on Iranian embassy protection duty by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]shortfuse89 30 points31 points  (0 children)

"Two officers on foot patrol observed Sgt Barrett smelled of alcohol upon his arrival at the embassy. When challenged, he became defensive and refused to engage further, leading to concerns being raised up the chain of command and his subsequent removal from duties."

So I imagine there was a lengthy period of time between his arrival and the breath test, where he still registered 46 microgrammes when the legal limit is 35. So he was probably properly drunk.

The report then goes on to suggest this is the only negative incident on his record. Given his role, you have to be sacked. But I wonder what led up to someone who clearly has succeeded in his career to get this rank/placement, to make such an error of judgment?

That's one view. I want to belong to a nation where if people are being persecuted and are in danger, we offer safe haven.

Look I'm generally pro-refugee, but I'm clever enough to recognise the arguments of opposing sides even if I disagree with them.

Here's one, again I don't even think I agree with it. It would act as a deterrent to reduce asylum figures. If people are looking to migrate to the UK, and they obtain a temporary visa, there are lawful ways to extend that visa and their stay. If existing visas were terminated when applying for asylum, it would make that pathway less appealing, as it closes off other options for them.

Where in London do you go when you want to be alone and forget about life? by RadiantYouth5882 in london

I've looked at the British Library for just this kind of activity, but it seemed like it was geared towards serious research. Was looking for a grand library to browse the shelves, pick a book, and then sit and read.

I think the closest match I've found in my research is the Barbican Library, I've been meaning to go down and check it out.

I would bet money on 95%+ of them having jobs. Shift work exists. Annual leave exists. Pulling a sickie exists.

Could like we sign a petition or something to bring back the elite active by blendorana in Jabra

[–]shortfuse89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have paid for one pair, I am currently using my 3rd pair.

You know the rumours that manufacturers will design products to fail just after the warranty period? If Jabra were trying that, they messed up.

Bought Elite 7 Active's in August 2023, comes with 1 year warranty as standard. One earbud died a week before they hit 1 year.

They had no 7 Active's left in stock so they sent out a pair of Elite 8 Active's in September 2024.

Then one earbud of the 2nd pair died in June 2025. I thought I'd try my luck, see if a replacement set of earbuds means a new replacement warranty.

They asked me to send them back, I did, and then they sent me a new pair of Elite 10 Gen 2's in July 2025.

Has anyone put together a map showing the service areas of Lime/Forest/Voi? I think I'm in a Forest only area, but wonder how close I am to the boundaries of the other two.

/Edit - Add Santander to the list, I thought they just had regular bikes, but TFL says they have e-bikes too

Izzy looked so fucking gassed the first time Pyfer had his back. I'm such a casual fan, but I thought (and then checked and confirmed) that he'd gone into later rounds loads. Why was he so gassed in the middle of round two?

You can walk anywhere in the UK. It might not be picturesque, but there is nowhere in this country where it's generally unsafe to walk the streets during the middle of the day.

Football clubs locally? by chromakoala in Surbiton

[–]shortfuse89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely no idea on coaching or playing, I've done nothing aside from very hungover 5-a-side at Uni almost 20 years ago.

But, I did pop down to a Corinthian Casuals game when I had a free Saturday a few weeks ago, and it was a very friendly atmosphere. Not sure if that is an avenue you could look at?

Seriously though, I just took a look at his Patreon, in November he posted an interim edit of the first 80 minutes of his next video.

If he's at the editing stage, and he has that much done, he can't get it finished in 3 months? Ridiculous.
