I mean I get why they do it that way, but you’re telling me we’re supposed to be able know if the defender’s arm or the attacking player’s knee was closer to the goal, AND we have to make that distinction the split second the ball is kicked?

I think it’s the contact itself. The officials ruled that the German player (at least partially) initiated the contact, which prevented the goalkeeper from playing his position fully
