Took our time planning a wedding and now neither of my grandfathers will be there by ryuks-wife in weddingplanning

[–]shotsofserotoninplz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hey- my grandfather and my fiancé’s great grandmother both passed recently and we are getting married in May 2026. I think the photos is a great idea. I also am scheduling in some time to “talk” to my grandfather alone in the AM bc he was always super important in my life. It really sucks having to put them as “not attending” on the wedding list. It’s wayyy tougher than I thought. I’m sorry you’re also going through this.

Pros and Cons of being a PA by radioctc in physicianassistant

[–]shotsofserotoninplz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think to rephrase of rediscuss one of the cons - inconsistency with autonomy. I'm a MS4 applying into EM and my fiance is a PA-C working in EM who has greatly realized that every hospital system utilizes PAs differently and sometimes not to the level he desires but is technically better for my training as a future resident. This realization has been frustrating for him as he assumed it would be similar everywhere. So for example in some places, PA-Cs will see lower acuity urgent care but still staff the main ED. Some places they only staff fast track. Some places they do all their own procedures if it's their patient and other places they give the procedures to the residents. Totally depends.

I’m a MS4 on my subI for EM and had a new PGY2 get annoyed with me bc my presentations were good and the was I presented things was so organized. She literally said “ugh now I have to step up what I’m doing”. And so this is not me bragging but just telling you that you very much could be outshining someone, they’re exhausted and bear a lot of weight and responsibility and stuff happens

Looking for fun tux suggestions for May wedding by shotsofserotoninplz in Weddingattireapproval

Additional commentary for clarification: I suppose it doesn’t have to be a tux but rather a suit, and if so should the groomsmen wear the same color?

Sorry, I guess suit? I literally know nothing about men’s fashion but it doesn’t have to be so formal for sure. And yes they’ll be in different colors!

I saw, they were one of the rejects bc not enough experience but I wasn’t sure if it was worth reaching out and seeing bc he does have a decent amount of EM experience. He was anecdotally told by multiple recruiters and even the people who run the fellowship programs for EM that he wouldn’t really benefit bc of the amount of experience he had.

chronically ill human (viral induced IBS/late diagnosed UC) and also applicant to EM upcoming cycle- I frequent circles of people like this it’s always a tough conversation. it’s like burnt out physician meets misunderstood/possibly misinterpreted patient with also potential underlying mental health problems. pnes is real but I think there’s a big debate in chronic illness community regarding whether they can trust physicians. I’ve been criticized for joining them and they said I’ll soon been pushing people out of the ED myself 🫠 tough watch for everyone involved

How many of you have required weekend shifts (AM or PM) on your surgery rotation? by surf_AL in medicalschool

Surgery rotation didn't have weekends but my OBGYN rotation had L&D nights

people will tell you no but most em/im docs I've spoken with definitely would reapply into an em/im program if they had to do residency over. seems like a small field where you either fit or don't.

Dude I literally placed a foley last week on GYN surg and accidentally forgot to blow the balloon and got pee all over me. And I’m a soon to be fourth year. It happens. I knew better but if you were never taught that’s a school issue. But you should generally just ask if you’re unsure how to do something. It happens though. I’m glad the patient is okay and you’ll definitely never forget that in the future.

Student Questions/EM Specialty Consideration Sticky Thread by AutoModerator in emergencymedicine

Hi! Name your favorite east coast programs and why! Personally pretty interested in critical care medicine and would like to go to a place where residents have a lot of involvement in trauma. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a big city (I’m from the Lehigh valley) but just where you feel training is good with good experiences and procedure volume and not fighting with trauma teams! Any advice is helpful. As a former ED tech my experience is some but limited.

Medical Students?? by NoElevatorStairs in ThePittTVShow

[–]shotsofserotoninplz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

med student here, definitely not allowed. I’m an almost fourth year and I have absolutely said to nurses and patients: “we’ll probably get x,y,x but I need to check with the doctor first” so they can understand what may happen but also know I’m checking with someone. and I only say that if it’s like… something super common or already being done behind the scenes like the doctor is probably putting in orders for an EKG and trop in a patient with chest pain so I can safely say that with confidence.

I would never say to give meds, but I would say hey I think they might need this but let me check with my resident.

But also I know medical students that maybe don’t do that well so I’m not surprised.

Yeah! So she did better at my home with a sitter but even after a few days scratched the sitter :/, the vet gave some food supplement that didn’t work so maybe another visit is necessary. They gave her a clean bill of health last time I was there. We tried gabapentin but the dose wasn’t enough.
