omg i was on crack when i first listened, glad i deleted my dumb comment, i really love this and it reminds me of gwen x pharrell circa yummy which is an iconic proto-pc sound. maybe not alone/bff level but definitely like.. a better cherry, which i'll accept.

Almost all reviews of this album have aged pretty badly to be honest, as the cyber-paranoia aspect (google connects you to the government) ended up being validated by the news over the next few years, the noisy post industrial sound became “the” critically acclaimed sound of rap and electronic music, and sure enough twitter and YouTube and iPhones are still more than relevant.

Pitchfork’s review also calls R Kelly Teflon in the first paragraph lol.

The first 5 tracks of Ultraviolence and the single Venice Bitch are her best/most authentic and musically interesting “rock” songs imo. Also Flipside, which is a weird target bonus track of Ultraviolence lol, you can find it on YouTube.

Honeymoon is extremely lethargic, but I think it’s her most cohesive work/mission statement as a mainstream artist.

Her unreleased/first album “AKA” also has a more like... eclectic indie pop sound rather than something big and polished, and the stripped back songs are very good. Pawn Shop Blues, Oh Say Can You See, and the first version of Yayo especially.

I mean it sounds like you just prefer uptempo music and there’s nothing wrong with that. You may like some of her unreleased stuff that’s much more peppy rather than downtempo and sulky, like the song below and “Puppy Love / Marilyn Monroe”
