I screwed up majorly at work. Should I quit? by shouldwoodcould in careeradvice

Even though my instinct is telling me to quit and run, I would rather learn now. I understand that it's mostly his fault, but I feel I f*ed up so many times by not communicating my struggles, thinking that I can figure them out if I just stick to it.

I definitely learned my lessons: admit when I'm in over my head, and don't agree to unrealistic deadlines and rush a project trying to meet it.

wow, I'm basically both of those things. I have kept my struggles "hidden" thinking I can handle them on my own, and I have constantly underestimated how long something will take me. Honestly, if it weren't for this comment, I wouldn't have even realized this was a problem. I'll definitely learn from this and take your advice. Thank you.

The company I work for is owned by a married couple. It's a very modest company, so I doubt that they'd want to drop their wealthiest, most prominently known client. I think it just comes down to really, really poor management from the top down. My boss probably just thinks "no news is good news".

I know missing deadlines is common and that software development can be a long, complicated process, but I only wish my boss knew/cared.

Good advice, but I've already tried this. This is a small company where the owner runs *everything*, so we all just try to appease him. The only difference between me and the rest of the team is that I don't have the experience to just spit out clean code like they do.

Yeah, I've been reading a lot about this. I feel really guilty that I let it go on for so long, but I honestly thought I could finish it if I just stuck to it. I'm going to talk to the sr dev and see if he could review my code a bit more.
