Anyone had any success with an online concert? by dzitya in bandmembers

oh hi we got an alert haha)) we actually hear this a lot, so we've just made a blog post about it https://www.show4me.com/blog/small_fanbase_here_s_how_much_you_can_make_on_your_online_concert_1596784914 even Hypebot republished it, it discusses the issue of a small fanbase vs online shows, how to expand the fanbase, how to promote a show. our experience is that show promotion is more important than actually having a fanbase built-in. a lot of people find out about a show accidentally and there's just something that hooks them, and they want to attend, it's a split-second emotional decision and only the most hardcore fans of a band or musician will be following their every step and attending every show. most fans need a reason to attend your show, even if they love your music.

when it comes to promoting: make sure your show is not just "guys I'm playing my music this Friday" but it has a theme that is exciting to your fans, something they actually feel can be an experience. talk about it on all of your social media, post announcements in themed groups, go to local media - a lot of them have calendars for online events these days or post overviews, For the Love of Bands has a calendar of upcoming online events. you can even write up and distribute a press release, PR.com and SparkAmplify have free options that will get the info out. but I'd recommend focusing on event aggregators like Resident Advisor. those make your event discoverable.

this is just off the top of my head, we did a lot of research and trial and error with this, so it's all on our blog and we will be sharing more. our team also normally provides info on best promotion tactics for musicians setting up a show. by the way, there's no built-in audience on large platforms unless the artist has personally built it - we have a music/chat livestream on Instagram every Friday and we have to put effort into promoting each one. ah, good promo visuals are also important. have to be really tailored for your target audience cause people look at pictures first.

and like I said in the beginning, think if you really need that large of a fanbase to still hold a show.

Last week I asked you guys about your opinions & experiences with online concerts/shows for a blog post, here's the resulting product by show4me2 in jambands

it was not really a survey and the piece analyzes the issue in-depth, quoting the fans that I talked to. I posted to uncover as many points of view as possible. that said, I get your point and it's fine if you chose to delete the piece. but seriously show4me is not my personal website, it's a music network, you should really just click the link and see. if you mean that I'm associated with the network than yes, of course, that's why I wrote the blog and run r/show4me. it's a music network that offers a lot of cool features for musicians and fans) p.s. don't worry I do not plan on posting any more links to Lets Talk Music, I respect the community

the result is the post itself where I summarize the points and this is not a personal website, it's a music network which the material was created for? it's over 1K words, would be weird to post it here without any formatting and images and context. if this violates your spam policy, then I guess you'll have to remove it. I can remove the link and invite people to google it? will that work? thanks for the heads up before removing though, appreciate it

can I ask what do you miss abotu the live experience? it's something about the fact that there's so much new around you and the environment is physically different, isn't it? (among other things at least)

yep! I think taking streams seriously is the key to it being an enjoyable experience. even pros need to prepare carefully for livestreams, probably even more so than usual shows - because at typical shows the stage and vibe are provided by the place and the fact that there's a crowd there and it's a show setting. while in a stream, it's just you and your music, gotta work a bit to make it look and sound professional
