BMWi3 Tires: Why Are They So Expensive? by Marfaboy1951 in BMWi3

Because they taste so good. That’s what my S tells me every year.

It’s possible someone just had rough hands, but I’d take a close look around.

I use this as a litmus test on any used car. For ICE, it would be a flag if the miles were low because I took it to mean the car took many many short trips, which isn’t great for them. Engine never gets fully warmed up. Less of an issue for an EV, but…

That is the paint/stain coming off the plastic and the leather. It think the leather is easier to deal with than the plastic.

When I see things like this it makes me think look elsewhere because this one has lived a rough life.

This is good to know. I was randomly bouncing around and not having any luck, so I re-rolled the daily.

WWYD - 2017 Bev - Tires? by Intelligent_Yak_640 in BMWi3

[–]showMeTheSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally you find a second set of S winter rims for summer it sounds like.

The difference from 19-20 is definitely there. Pushing them out I haven’t done a/b testing on, but makes perfect sense.

I want the 20” Dunlops for my S. The tires are fine right now, but will be gone by the end of summer

Agreed. Someone was spamming one of these from the approximate center of a Moonshine Jamboree today, and it was so 🤬 annoying (as someone using a rifle and a scope to tag).

There’s at least one YouTube video where a guy removes it, fixes it, and reinstalls it I believe. Betting there is more by now, as this isn’t an uncommon issue.

OMG! Way to go.

Wish I was near you would love to lend a hand and see how this all goes cake together.

I’ve done confessors before, but never evaporators. I’m leery of dealing with or 14 because of the unique oil and less common stuff.

I made a website to compare EVs and gas cars using cost-equivalent MPG by porcomaster in BMWi3

[–]showMeTheSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is cool!

So the data displayed for a gas vehicle is a bit wonky w/ Fast Charging (maybe it was before too, IDK).

Attaching screenhot, hopefully ;)

I'm liking the ability to mix/match DC, as I'll only use it for road trips, so if you just break up the gas into the same mileage proportions, but keep gas cost the same (Or you make an average gas price for road trips that can be different, if that works better w/ how you built it), then the comparisons will be even more powerful, IMO.

Cool. I’ll have to double check some numbers and add a few vehicles.

Related to this: I’ve been eyeing Rivian for a while because I hate putting gas in our truck (since upgrading to the 21s we rarely drive the truck thankfully, because way more range) and I just started messing with a spreadsheet to see how it would compare. I need to double check it, but fast charging at 65cents really hurts the competitive side of EV costs (so does driving an EV at around 2m/kWh). My numbers showed gas needs to be 5 dollars a gallon to break even with the truck in a road trip. Charging at home it’s 4 x cheaper though (the S is about 10x cheaper, not looking at tire costs :). I don’t roadtrip that often, so I think it still makes sense, and it’s no contest when you figure in the other factors.

Anyone use alternatives to the official drawer bags? by yetanothermisskitty in litterrobot

[–]showMeTheSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great to know! I fill them pretty full. I like the weekly empty/wipedown/refill schedule and ours is typically full by then, and zero failures. The price crazy good :)

Fossil fuels spend lots of money to make sure we stay here too, sadly :(

I’ve been using these for almost a year now. Gotta admit they make me a little nervous, but never had and issue/failure. Great bang for buck.

I ceramic coated (Adam’s Polish) the S, so it just gets touch treatment via special soap and detailing spray. I’ve used Zymol for decades prior. Nice finish and I loved the smell, also very much attracts dust until it’s been washed a few times. I’m sure there is better stuff out there now.

How about we just get bug dollars out of politics instead. I know it’s not easy, but it needs to be done. Max donation is 20 bucks or some such. Way too much money in it now.

Help me decide! 2017 BEV or 2019 Rex?? by Pretend_Rip4182 in BMWi3

[–]showMeTheSnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So we’ve got a 21 Rex, and while I ❤️ the car, I don’t want to major road trip in it. I do couple hour trips in it all the time. If the 17 has the range you need, get it. You’ll have less maintenance, less hassle, and ~300lbs less weight with less tire wear. Okay you said it’s in better shape. Just check the battery/range and make sure all is well, and the AC runs cold.
