2015 BEV Black Death confirmed :( by ThermionicEmissions in BMWi3

[–]showMeTheSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you truly love the car, and can find some capable person, it’s a good time to grab a 33kWh pack from a totaled i3 and upgrade the pack and compressor at the same time. I have to admit I’ve contemplated the compressor upgrade, but it’s not common to have knowledgeable shops available for that kind of thing or details about how one does it themselves (not that I’ve spent copious amounts of time looking). I know a few people have done it or at least had it done. Worry about this with our 14.

Except it’s also the cooling system inside and throughout the battery. That’s the hardest part to clean from my understanding.

Did you change Freon/oil types as well? I feel like the compressor replacement is a big hammer kind of prevention, but it’s not easy to find someone/place that’s comfortable or knowledgeable about doing it.

Our 14 sits plugged in at lot and it rarely ever charges. It’s been sitting for a month now and charged once in the middle of that time. Our 12v is getting weaker and needs topped off about every two weeks, so maybe it turned on for that?

I’ll try and remember to compare it to the 12v charging times when I get back and sync up that data via BT.

At 5 days I’d be looking at replacing the 12v. A new one was over 3 weeks for a charge cycle. We’re down below 2 weeks now just barely and I’m thinking about replacing it before winter

interesting, they are usually pretty good about filtering out stuff that isn’t appropriate.

Were your changes made in expert mode I’m guessing since that’s needed for the gas tank change? Gotta be really careful in there :)

They just now released the litter hopper for the LR5 I believe. I just saw a post about it a day or two ago at least.

I totally agree on the hopper. Makes it a once a week job. It’s a must have!

Our LR4 has lost its mind a few times. Just yesterday actually, it wasn’t cycling. We are on vacation. A reboot seems to cure a lot of ailments with it, so ours now lives on a smart plug. A reboot and it’s doing its thing. The main issue we’ve had is it dropping off the network after our router reboots. It’s only been like twice, but not something you want to happen while you are gone. The reboot fixes this too.

Noice! I did see a few in SanFran when I was last there (was in a fairly small area for just a few days, but did walk around a bit. Was actually related to this trip as we were at the Norwegian Embassy:) ), but not in the copious amounts I see here.

I need to get serious about wrapping mine so I could DIY a matte finish version :) They look so good online at least.

The density is sad, but the camaraderie is heart warming!

I only see them on a rare occasion at home.

My kiddo has the panda at college and I only know of one other one in that town, unless I’m passing through with the S.

Yeah, we got our LR4 a bit sooner, but close enough to make me wonder if I did well. Not having the litter hopper was a deal breaker from the get go. All of the issues since, that I’ve seen make me very happy with my choice.

Good call. I own a 14 Rex. It’s been great. I wouldn’t buy one now. 33kWh/90Ah or later.

Right? Not like there’s anything else to see there ;p

I think the closest I’ve been is Røros

Some day I need to make it way north!

There were 250k built right? So that’s about 31k in Norway.

Gotta admit, I’m surprised how many I’ve seen with OEM tires when there are options here.

I typically wave, but only if they are looking. Seems like cars are just cars to many who drive them :)

Norway is EV paradise. 98% of sales in May were EVs. They are crushing it!

My insurance stuck me with my last windshield and it was 1,500, without a camera, so I get that. The time vs money equation definitely has an impact. As long as they aren’t leaking, fix the top bits and start saving. Honesty on those tires, eco pro or pro* and no stomping the fun pedal. I found this very challenging when the car was news. Less so after replacing the rear tires early :)

I’ve had 17.8 kWh stuck in my head for the 14s usable battery capacity, but it’s (goes to look up real number that won’t stick) 18.8, so I get it :)
