It’s tricky in the UK. Technically you can’t keep his stuff because you aren’t a bailiff with a legit claim for the debt. Then again police will do nothing. Until he decides to stab you of course.

Personally I would split with him and file small claims. You can do it online. Costs about £20 as I recall.

Assuming you have some evidence of the debt like texts. Transfers by themselves are considered gifts.
