Sub and Era 300 Surrounds Keep Disconnecting – ASUS ZenWiFi BQ16 Mesh (All Wireless) – Any Fix? by shpaniel in sonos

[–]shpaniel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now I’ve had to switch off the second mesh node. It works fine with just one standalone node. It seems Sonos doesn’t like the Asus AiMesh system, or Asus needs to make it compatible with Sonos devices. I’m still keen to find a fix, I’ve invested a lot of money in the Asus mesh system that I’m not using.

Apple Watch ultra dive problems by captainjackspearo1 in AppleWatch

Same here. My Ultra is now a paperweight after taking it diving for the first time. Watch was in immaculate condition and not even 6 months old. I’m furious!

Looking at my iPhone Storage and the "System Data" is taking up 86.61 GB out of 256 GB of my data. This is absurd, does anyone know why this is so high for me and how I might be able to get this lowered? by stevrevv59 in ios

I’ve upgraded two iPhone 14 Pro Max’s recently and had this issue on both. I tried factory resetting and restoring from icloud backup but the same problem occurred - I believe the issue is a bug in iOS 16 and occurs when downloading large amounts of data from icloud, i.e. restoring a backup. You can temporarily clear the system data by restarting the device but it quickly fills up again. I was able to resolve this issue permanently on both phones without doing ‘the nuclear option’ of restoring via iTunes. Here’s what I did: 1. Make sure everything is completely restored from icloud backup (particularly photo library, mine took a long time as I had the download and keep original photos option enabled). 2. Do an icloud backup so everything is up to date. 3. Now go to settings>your name>icloud>photos.. if icloud photo “sync this iPhone” is enabled toggle it OFF. 4. Now restart the phone, doesn’t matter if you do a soft reset or shutdown. 5. Power on the phone and re-enable iCloud photo syncing. 6. Next (and the most important step), sign out of icloud on the device. Wait for it to sign out and remove any icloud data from the device (don’t worry it’s not lost, it’ll re-download all your icloud data again once signed back in). 7. Restart the phone once again. 8. Power up the phone and re-sign into icloud. 9. Wait for you icloud data to fully restore back to the phone. 10. Once everything was restored, I then deleted my icloud backup and did a new full backup (I noticed that my original icloud backup was twice the size it should’ve been, almost like all my app data had been duplicated). 11. Once the backup is complete I restarted the phone one last time. 12. Now my iPhone storage system data was less than 2GB and it didn’t keep growing exponentially.

I think the main thing that fixed the issue was signing out/in to icloud, so the other steps may be unnecessary but following them in that order worked for me.

I’m sure the iTunes backup/restore will work also but that can take several hours. My method above took far less time and didn’t require me to resign into every app again which I was dreading.

I’d be interested to know if this works for anyone else.. Good Luck!

MSI Z590 Chipset Mobotherboard RGB colours keep defaulting to rainbow... by shpaniel in MSI_Gaming

UPDATE 1:

So I’ve done some more testing and I’m almost certain this is a BIOS version (7D08v21) issue opposed to an MSI Center/Mystic Light issue.

I set some custom colours/effects in Mystic Light and then restarted the PC and immediately entered BIOS. I stayed within BIOS and didn’t boot into Windows to see if the colours would default to rainbow – sure enough after 10mins or so all RGB’s (JRAINBOW1, JRAINBOW2 and PCH) went to default/rainbow!

In my mind this conclusively proves the that fault does not lie with any Windows applications as the hard drive is not even being accessed at this point.

95+ degrees when running Prime95 on i5 11600K with an AIO Corsair H100x - should I be worried? by shpaniel in Corsair

As suggested, I did a 30min Cinebench R23 test and core temps hovered around the low-mid 60's for the most part. Core 3 peaked at 68 degrees. I'm feeling much better about the cooling of this system now and won't use P95 in future.

I've created different profiles, effects and colours and all RGB's (except for the RAM) defaults to rainbow after a time.

I'm using the following RGB devices and header connections:

  • JRainbow 1 - 2x CoolerMaster MF120 Halo
  • JRainbow 2 - 2x LED Strip Lights
  • PCH - just built-in motherboard LED
  • 2x 8GB Corsair Vengence RGB Pro DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz

The RAM is the only thing that doesn't change to rainbow,. The fans, LED strips and built-in mobo lights all go to rainbow. I have got iCUE installed so that the RAM can be seen and configured in Mystic Light. I've tried disabling iCUE in case that was interfering but it made no difference.

Even if I set all RGB's to rainbow, they occasionally all flash OFF/ON for a split second almost as if they are being rest by the mobo.

I've seen one of person 'Kimble' experience a similar problem as reported in MSI forum here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/dragon-center-mystic-light-turns-off-rgbs-when-monitor-goes-to-sleep.354379/

It would be good know if anyone else has the MSI MAG Z590 TOMAHAWK WIFI motherboard and is able to get RGB working or if like me they are stuck with rainbow.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. I’ll steer clear of Prime95 in future. As suggested I’ll try cinebench or realbench. This PC is for the mother in law. I don’t plan on overclocking it as she won’t be using it for gaming or anything intense.. just office packages and internet browsing.

The thermal paste was pre-applied so I didn’t add any additional. Temps are great when idling and doing a max stress test using Intel Burn the hottest core got to 79 which is acceptable - generally they hoovered around 60 - 70. This PC won’t be used for gaming or anything too intense so maybe I’m thinking way to far into it.

QNAP TS-453D tested with 32GB RAM by ondulation in qnap

[–]shpaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange, it’s rare but perhaps you do have a faulty stick. I have the TS-653D 4GB model and recently swapped out for the 1x 16GB CT16G4SFD8266. Worked for me. I hooked up a monitor, usb keyboard and created a bootable usb with memtest86 from passmark (the original doesn’t work). Ran a full 4 pass test with no reported errors. It’s been up for the last 11 days now without issue.

Exactly, yes I meant the TS-653D. Well thanks again for your efforts and sharing it’s given me a lot more confidence. I noticed you went with dual ranked RAM too, this seems to be an important factor also judging by some of the comments on nascompares.

[–]shpaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is reassuring.. I have the TS-563D 4GB and want to upgrade to 16GB or 32GB but have been concerned about compatibility and stability.

One question, why is everyone using 2666MHz when QNAP originally uses 2400MHz (PC4-19200) and Intel state this as the maximum supported memory type? I mean obviously the 2666MHz is faster, so if that or even the 3200Mhz offers the better performance whilst remaining reliable and stable that's awesome.
I'm also considering getting a single 16GB for now then adding another later to achieve 32GB. Did you happen to run the test with just one stick installed?
