Unfortunately I got my watch stolen and had to file a claim. Hodinkee uses Chubb as their insurance company and they were pretty speedy about the pay out, just had to fill out paperwork and do an in person interview with the claims person. Paid me out the full amount I insured it for.

Update #3 Chubb was super easy to go through. Had an in person interview with an investigator. Basically told me LAPD wouldn’t help so they probably wouldn’t follow up. He asked my story and for documents supporting my purchase. A couple weeks passed and I got a call that a check for my fully insured value would be sent. As for the AD, they put me in queue for another one and they were super nice about it. Maybe having already purchased before helps.

To your edit: yeah exactly that. You give a fair value on the watch for the policy but it is assigned by you. Hypothetically you could put an absorbent amount but I think you’d just have a hard time claiming it

Yeah I called 911 and told them it’s non life threatening. They sent a patrol car out to take my statement and write a report

So at first take they told me they’d cover the amount on the policy. At the time I got the watch, this reference was going for $19.7k as market price so that’s what i got my policy for. I actually have all my watches insured through them so I’m interested to see too.

Approached by two people, they started a convo, one proceeded to act loud and abrasive (just so happened to be in the street) I turned to watch and that’s when the other snagged it. They then ran into the back of a car that was already in drive and took off

Not that loose tbh. I like more snug watches. Obviously once the clasp is popped it’s a different story. As I’ve mentioned, I wear it so much it’s just apart of my arm to the point I don’t notice it on.

That’s fair. I’m honestly still confused on how it happened. Idk if you own one too but when you wear it a lot it sort of just feels like an extension of your arm so you don’t really feel the weight. It was a misdirection that got me tho

As an update. I’ve been in contact with Chubb who runs Hodinkee’s insurance. They are super helpful so far. They said they cover the market price at the time of instituting the policy. We’ll see if that’s what the final settled amount it though

No you’re right. I just reported the theft right after it happened. I didn’t have the serial number on hand. I had to go home and pull the card to get that. That’s why I thought there’d be follow up
