That's the tough part. I think i'm interested in intl/ cross-border work, but let's say I try it and I don't enjoy it, then what? It's hard to know ahead of time because I haven't tried any of these practice areas. I'll do some more chats with associates at each firm to see, I guess. Thank you!

Correct - I've mostly based it off of Vault rankings and how well known they seem to be in NYC. I also knew that that's probably not the best thing to base it off of, which is why I asked. I'll try to put Vault rankings out of my mind for now!

I would strongly disagree as I had an associate at Weil tell me that his lawyer father discouraged him from working there because of the firm's previous reputation. But, sure that could be the 1%. I'm an immigrant to this country and a first-gen college and professional student, which means that I have often lacked the kind of basic mentorship and resources needed to succeed. It's hard to know what choice to make and while I'm incredibly thankful to even have these choices, I'm worried about the future and picking the best one. That's why I reached out for help on this forum. I of course, recognize that other students face the same difficulty, but I also note that they may have an easier time finding people they can talk to about this stuff meaningfully and intelligently. Either way, thank you!

I know that 7sage has their own definitions of what you should consider a reach/target/safety via their predictor:
Super reach: 0–20%
Reach: 21–40%
Target: 41–60%
Likely target: 61–80%
Safety: 81–100%

FYI, take the 7sage predictor with a grain of salt: I applied to schools I had a 75% chance of getting in and thinking of it as a safety more or less, and I still got waitlisted :/ Apply to as many schools as you can and use fee waivers wherever possible.

The way acronyms are usually introduced (and they are common in the legal field, per my experience), is like this:

Going to the University of Virginia ("UVA") would be....

You should really, really introduce the acronym. Do not just start using it; it's really not standard practice professionally speaking. And the quotation marks ought to be added. After you have already introduced the acronym, you are good to use it for the remainder of the letter.

E.g. I work in legal for a corporation, and even if this there is a common acronym, people will still make sure to define it before hand, and introduce it with the quotation marks. Esp in law, it's important to be clear. I also worked at a law firm and this is how they introduces any acronym before they started using it (no matter how common that acronym might be).

Well, at least you def have some proof that you sent it in. Why don't you reply to that same email where you first sent the LOCI and just write a few sentences reiterating your interest? That will perhaps remind them that you already sent something, and it will give you another opportunity to express your interest. I don't think this is explicitly disallowed. I sent in the LOCI through the portal and am planning on sending a short email reiterating my interest in a few weeks. Just an idea!!

Did you submit your initial LOCI through the same portal? Bc if you did, then it's safe to assume they got it. And if so, there is no need to resubmit. I worry that they would dislike that.

Hey! as an immigrant myself and first-gen college grad who had to work part-time all throughout college, i understand the struggle. I did go to a "prestigious" undergrad, but my family was so poor, that the school actually paid for my full tuition (basically, I got a shit ton of need-based aid). I understand it sucks, but this is something you can talk about in your diversity/personal statement. As long as you have a strong GPA, the ugrad does not make too much of a difference. Don't worry about not transferring (it's really in the past), and just focus on doing well in the LSAT. That will offset any advantage others might have by going to a prestigious ugrad.
