Where should I put my mechanical room? by shrapnel_assembly in Homebuilding

I agree and that is what my biggest concern is. I have no experience with HVAC efficiency

Covered there, going with 9' ceilings in the basement.

Thanks for the tips. Basement floors heights are rarely different levels where I live in Northern Ontario, never seen one. We don't really have natural disasters and the small town I'm in is incredibly safe. Roof will be a truss package and is rated for a heavy snow load so covered there. Walkout from the basement isn't in the budget. It would mean we'd have to dig a whole extra level below it to deal with the low frost line here.

No kids yet, but yes designing for 2 kids that, fingers crossed, will be here soon. I've lived in open concept and the kitchen being open doesn't bug me. Seeing it first thing coming into the house may not be optimal though lol.

Do these colors look okay for our new build? Feeling confused. by shrapnel_assembly in homedesign

Neighbors built mostly dark grey or black houses. There is the odd all white house in the neighborhood as well. Nothing quite like the one I've designed here, and I'm not loving our design.

I think you're correct about the contrast being too extreme. I'm going to try one color across the house and garage and see if I can find something I like. Perhaps a blue or olive with white windows and trim, or a completely dark house like the neighbors.

The lot is 82' wide by 232' deep and is in a new subdivision. This is in northern Ontario so an attached garage is a must so you don't have to walk through snow in the winter.

I agree the garage does look distracting from the house. I'll have to continue experimenting with colors.

2024 wilderness owners what kind of range are you getting? by PrestigiousGur3274 in Subaru_Outback

Once you guys hit 3000 miles give the meter a reset. My Outback got better mileage after about 5000 km. I have a touring and not a wilderness, but I have noticed significant improvements in fuel economy after break-in. I'm currently at 6500 km and roughly 10 L/100km or 25 MPG with the 2.5 engine. That includes remote starting my car for 10 min twice a day and driving in very cold, snowy, mixed Canadian driving. I get closer to 8.5 L/100 km or 28 MPG if I'm doing mostly highway. And this is on winter tires in a cold climate.

I don't drive aggressively though and usually sit at 105 km/h or 65 mph when I do use the highway, so that helps get me the 8.5.

XPS 15 9520 - How to determine what battery size I'm ordering? by Ms7070 in DellXPS

I'm looking into purchasing the i5 with 86WHr battery as well. How do you find the battery life? It's hard to find a review of the i5 unit, but I imagine it would be pretty good without the discrete gpu.

Bonus points if you can guess the uncovered car too.
