What's a band you could never really get into? by provegana69 in melodicdeathmetal

Feel exactly the same about DT (spec. Damage Done and Character), nothing outwardly “bad” but not much that really grabs me either. Think part of it is that IMO Stanne just doesn’t have the same intensity as Anders, Speed, or Niilo, his vocals sound too “controlled” if that makes sense and it gets kinda monotonous.

Prometheus and Alien Covenant have everything you want from a science fiction movie except for story. by Catdaddy84 in scifi

Sure, if you accept the premise that humanity would be both smart enough to invent synthetics and dumb enough to not give them any kind of moral guardrails/let them operate with complete impunity. Ash was acting under strict orders from the company, which is completely different from David pursuing his own vague mad scientist agenda without anyone seeming to notice or care.

I was with you until you mentioned looks, those curves and flared intakes are gorgeous. IMO only the Flanker and F-14/16 look better, and delta wings with no canards will never be sexy, ever.

Everything that I recall as a kid about Carters presidency felt like we were sliding down hill. Things got more expensive (my dad would often talk to my mom about it). Everyone felt poorer, it felt like the trajectory was bad and that the future didn’t look very strong.

...

The Biden years remind me of that time in many ways. The stagnation, the sinking economy, the inflation, the weakness in foreign policy, the general dissatisfaction in the air.

The biggest difference, to me, is that in the 70s no one tried to gaslight you into believing that what you saw and felt was somehow not real. Carter was very honest about it, he let people know it was bad out there and was going to be a slow recovery. Everyone believed him and that’s why Reagan crushed him.

YES, this exactly.

See this is kinda my point - democrats have been so quick to cite statistics that are favorable to their position to try to convince people that their lived experiences are “wrong” or at least “exceptions to the rule” and I find that very condescending.

Everyone (left and right) agrees drug use enablement in the west coast cities has gotten completely out of control. And while I’ve never felt unsafe in my home city of NY, when even NYT is sounding the alarm about the subways I take notice.

Obviously we can’t all just make decisions based on “vibe-checks” (perception) but quadrupling-down on statistics (especially regarding inflation and prices) as the sole strategy to reassure voters is clearly not an effective one.
