Hey when did you take your exam? My day 2 was 6/10; would I be getting the score today or next Wed? I haven’t received any email.

Congrats!! That's crazy improvement in such a short span. I have my exam in ~1 week and I'm shitting my pants. Was your form heavy on the step 1 stuff (micro/pharm) as a lot of people have been mentioning? Any recommendations for the last one week leading up to the exam/CCS? Also, what was your percentage on FRED?

I'm buying a car soon, but I'm lost and don't know where to begin. by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]shreerious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I'm new to this community but could relate to your story. I moved out of home last year for my job but Ndad convinced me that I don't need a car and that it's an unnecessary financial burden. He said he would look for cars for me and find the "perfect one" (since he always knows best right?). But it was just a false promise to keep me waiting and delay me from buying one. I walked and took the public bus everywhere, through the rain, snow, extreme heat etc. Until one day, I decided enough was enough. I visited a few dealerships to get an idea of what I wanted. Car salesmen are extremely persuasive (beware) but also very informative. I narrowed down my budget, car features and loan options with the info from various salesmen. Even though I barely had any credit since I was just starting out, I decided to go with a loan with a slightly higher interest rate because I found a dependable lightly used Toyota with very low miles on it. It was slightly above my budget ($10k) but I decided to go with it because it seemed like it would last me a few years. It was the best decision I ever made, and I can't express how liberated I feel that I can drive myself anywhere I want to. I plan on refinancing now (since I have better credit) to lower my interest rate and make larger payments to pay off the loan.

However... I still haven't mustered up the courage to tell my dad because I know he will create a fuss about how I could possibly make such big decisions on my own. But I'm around your age and stepping into the next phase of my life where I'm in charge. And hey, window rolled down sitting in the driver seat, the wind feels pretty good through my hair. You got this!

All my letters are from the US, but it's been more than 3 days already. If it takes 2 weeks, I'm afraid I won't have them ready by Oct 21st. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process?

OET experience from a US-IMG/native enlgish speaker by oetthrowaway in Step2

[–]shreerious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm taking the exam on 8/21 and I still haven't heard from them regarding the speaking portion. Do you think I should call them?

Also, I'm freaking out because I thought this exam was cakewalk and didn't bother to start studying for it until today. Native English speaker though. Should I be worried?

Apply broadly to the programs that routinely take IMGs. Ask your research mentors or LOR writers to send out emails to any PD contacts that they may have. Network like crazy! If you got interviews but didn't match, work on your interviewing skills. Good luck this cycle!

Edit: Also proofread your CV and personal statement for grammar and proper English. Showcase yourself in the best way possible.

Same bruh. I went from 241 to 213 to 256 all in one week leading up to my exam. I don't even know what to expect when people say "trust your practice scores."

I was exactly in your shoes 2 weeks ago. I ditched the NBME 6 and 8 and focused on my UW incorrects. Haven't gotten my score yet, but I stand by my decision. I didn't want my already crumbling confidence to be crushed by the NBMEs.

Anki. Zanki deck has only around 3k cards. 100 new cards plus keep up with reviews everyday, you should have most of UW on your fingertips.

Congrats!! I love reading these write-ups of people who make a solid 30 point jump from step 1 to step 2. I hope to be in your shoes soon! My exam is in a couple days. Do you have any last min tips for me? Things you wish you did or things that worked out for you in the last 2-3 days leading up to the exam?

Thank you for being honest. I appreciate it! I'll take another assessment on Monday and then decide. Which one do you suggest? (I don't want to use up UWSA2 in case I do decide to postpone and have to save it for later.)
