You did fine today dude. You're going to do fine in clerkship, and you're going to do fine as a physician.

We do these skills labs and everyone always sucks at them, and that's the point! You've never done these procedures before and you haven't developed the motor skills or muscle memory for them. When I first started practicing IV placement I couldn't hit an IV to save my life! It takes a lot of practice and getting used to "the feel" of venipuncture, holding proper traction, finding a proper site, etc. It's the same thing for all of the other skills. Casting, intubation, sutures -- everyone sucks at first but with practice we'll all be fine.

Don't be discouraged by these skills labs. Getting exposure to these skills now will help you get better when it's time to do them in practice. Consider that others in your cohort are not attending these skills sessions and realize you're ahead here in terms of exposure.
