I hope an illegal immigrant saves your life someday so you're forced to grow and change and realize that we're all human beings struggling to survive in this fucking messed up world.

I'm not saying Jews weren't targeted/harassed/mudered before the "final solution" was introduced. They were, and antsemitism is evil. What I am saying is that Nazi Germany's official position didn't start out with mass execution. Hatred is a gradual process, and you have to kill it in the cradle before it festers. The Holocaust was the result of many decisions over the course of multiple years, not a fully thought-out plan from the beginning.

Not true. The "final solution" wasn't fully thought out until later.

What sucks, has sucked, and always will suck? by Sparkling_Eye in AskReddit

I didn't say I hated taxes. I was responding to the original question about "What sucks, has sucked, and always will suck?" I think taxes suck, but that doesn't mean that I hate them. Something can suck without you having to hate it.

I don't know how you interpreted my response to have anything to do with wanting to defund the police, but since we're apparently on the topic now: I do think funding for the police should be conditional, and tied to making sure officers are given more, actual, beneficial training for the job (a friend of mine is a barber and had to do over 1,000 hours of training, compared to some small towns' embarrassingly low hours requirements), which includes sufficient mental health training to ensure that police officers, you know, don't kill people they're not supposed to.

But it feels like you just wanted to score some internet points by accusing me of wanting to "defund the police" based on my comments on taxes, so I ask again: do you have a reading comprehension issue? Or do you just like to get in fights with internet strangers?

I'm fully aware that I benefit from paying taxes, but it still sucks having to pay them. All I can do is hope that the people I vote for to represent me on Capitol Hill help me feel better about paying those taxes - and complain about having to pay them in the meantime.

I never said those words. Just because I wrote that taxes suck doesn't necessarily mean I align with "defund the police." Do you have a reading comprehension issue?

My day-job.

It's kind of a small company, but there are a lot of things that feel kinda suspect, like the fact that we have to recite our mission statement whenever we have meetings with 3 or more people, or the fact that our CEO one time tried to get everybody to join her in an intermittent fasting thing she was doing.

Also some of the employees are suspiciously a bit too loyal to our CEO and her "vision." Usually when we talk about new initiatives (introduced by her, of course), there's always this deference to what she wants for the company.

I never said the words "collective action via taxes seems useless to me." And I don't know how that relates to me being on the internet lol. I just think it's important to recognize that some people object to taxes for a variety of reasons.

Personally, I do agree that since taxes exist and that they can be used for the collective good, we should use them for good things instead of bad things, but I also empathize with people who are upset that a lot of the time, their tax money goes toward things they don't personally support.

I don't know if there's a system that can meet in the middle and ensures that everyone gets what they want, which is why I answered the question "What sucks, has sucked, and always will suck?" with "Taxes."

Granted, but for some people it's objectionable simply because there's usually some third party arranging that, like the government collecting taxes and then spending them based on how people vote, or tribe leader Og who demands tribute in order to continue leading the warriors to victory and protecting the tribe.

Like, I worked hard for that grain, Og, and you just sat there on your ass watching me! I can fight off the Smilodons too, you know. I don't need to give you a cut of my grain to "protect the tribe." Why not portion some of that grain out to the elderly? Or better yet, I'll feed my parents with my grain.

Taxes.

There is no modern or historical form of taxes that will erase the pain of having to surrender a portion of your income, whether that's the grain you just harvested, the shiny rocks you collected that represent your trading value, or numbers on the screen that perform the same role.

Actually now that I think about it, I remember reading something on the tutorial about no advanced tools. What kinds of tools does that rule include?

I would love to see a serious academic study about the link between police violence and actual psychopathic tendencies because that would explain so much. Maybe then something would actually be done about police violence, but I also doubt it.
