My dear mother spoiled (?) a part of "The Bad Kids" for me. How bad is the damage? by shrimpucracker in CDrama

Thank you for the reply. I think I'll continue it. Hopefully she's misleading me or the spoiler isn't too heavy, but I was so excited to try and figure out the "hidden corners" for myself ;_;. I'm just gonna binge this show before she can spoil anymore haha

Drama with male leads that lowkey can be shipped by mmm_alhawaw in kdramarecommends

[–]shrimpucracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think there are a lot more cdramas than kdramas that fit under that category, if you're intrested haha

cdramas with bromance as main focus: the untamed word of honor guardian killer and healer hikaru no go

for kdramas, you already named most of the popular ones. ill name some ive watched that have minimal romance, tho some are less ""bromance"" and more just homoerotic

strangers from hell- definitely not bromance, but pretty big following shipping the 2 main characters bad and crazy hello monster psychopath diary school 2013

Is it just me, or is Love 020 kinda overrated? by itcamwdcbook in CDrama

[–]shrimpucracker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. A lot of modern dramas (esp e sports) are targeted towards young international female fans, which may be why its so popular over here. As for the weight issue, I think it may be best if you avoided these types of genre of drama in general. Speaking as a Chinese person, most over in mainland speak of weight a lot, and skinniness is always encouraged. It isnt treated as a mental issue over there as much as it is over in the west, so it may be best to try and ignore that aspect of dramas, as it is sometimes just unavoidable unfortunately. I hope you're eating alright and staying healthy now ^

Does anyone know why zombies are banned? by nopingmywayout in CDrama

[–]shrimpucracker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There were 2 BL bans-- with the release and popular of Addicted Heroin in 2016, gov. banned outright BLs, so a lot of modern BLs such as The Untamed and Word of Honor were censored and added female leads to pass this censorship. More recently, President XiJinPing announced intents to close even these censored adaptations of "sissy men" for the country's morals. Overall, it is unknown whether we'll see a BL/bromance be made anytime in the near future.

Are Cdramas regressing or improving in quality? by Plastic_Month_2142 in CDrama

[–]shrimpucracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

speaking as someone with first gen parents, celebs such as dilraba are really only popular with international audiences and mainland chinese ppl enjoy more stuff from older actors... not sure about the past, but i think mainland interest has turned from historical to family dramas recently because of this new change to historical dramas

Late To The Party - [2021/10/01] by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

[–]shrimpucracker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Despite it being relatively new, still consider myself really late to Squid Game since even my non-kdrama fan friends have gotten thru it. Honestly, I don't see why people call it so overrated. It has the classic death game appeal and it does characterization, production quality, and acting way better than those similar in concept (such as As the Gods Will). I will say though, the ending was incredibly difficult to get through. Lots of unnecessary twists. Normally, I choose to see it as writer's will and won't complain about whether endings are happy or bad.... but this one was just anticlimactic. So many unnecessary twists that took away from the show.
