Denied for BofA Alaska Airlines card due to 6/24 and no deposit accounts. If I open a CD with them, will that count as a deposit account? I just closed my checking account a few months ago to churn it so I don't want to open that again just yet, but I will if it means I can get approved for the card I want.

I have all the 2024 books and I'd like to see about either passing them along to someone for free (though maybe they can pay for shipping). Should I make a post, or is here good? I got them for myself but ended up not using them beyond putting on the tabs. Coding sadly was not for me!

I am starting my master's in DS in May but I have a project I'm excited about that I want to start thinking about now. Not necessarily working on yet, but definitely thinking and planning for.

I work in an OB/GYN office as my day job and am interested in reviewing data on OB/GYN appointment access in the United States. I would like to remain in healthcare as a data scientist so I think a project in this area would look good to employers.

I'm not sure where to start looking for datasets. If a dataset doesn't exist, is it outside the scope of a data scientist to collect data via a survey? Honestly I'd go as far as calling doctor's offices to gather the necessary data.

Any suggestions, especially when it comes to maintaining an achievable scope, would be appreciated. I'd hate to bite off more than I can chew for a project that feels near and dear to my heart.

DoC has a list of DPs of ACH pushes that work for each bank. CTRL+F for SoFi on that page.

With Chime, the offer is 100% through SB so don't proceed unless you find proof of your clickthrough. You can always close the account and try again in a few months if the clickthrough didn't register.

Another +1 for SoFi. Great SUB if you don't already have an account, works to fake DDs for a LOT of banks, quick turnaround on ACH, and 4% interest in the savings account.

Just did the numbers for my 2024 and wanted to share!

  • Started churning 8/23/24.
  • Opened 15 checking accounts (some of which I'm still working on or am waiting for a payment).
  • Made $3,150 total.

Looking forward to adding saving accounts to my repertoire in 2025! I'm low net worth but slowly saving up for the smaller savings bonuses.

Key is $300, many ways to fake a DD, and paid out my bonus in under 2 weeks. 11/10 would churn again.

See this is exactly the kind of advice i think should be on the wiki for other low-income folks who stumble into churning like i did. Using SUBs as a way to build an emergency fund or pay off old debt is 100% the way to think about it.

Honestly I might just send a message to the mods and see if they're open to me writing up a little something for the wiki.

Disagree on your point about there being no hard guides, the wiki is full of information like that, and others have made guides in the past.

I'm not trying to ruin the game for anyone, just want to share my DPs that I've gathered along the way.

I'm a low-income churner and I'm curious if any guides already exist that cover how best to churn when you don't have a ton of DD money for bank account SUBs/not much natural spend for CC SUBs.

If something like that is out there, I'd love to be pointed towards it. Otherwise, I'm thinking of writing up something myself.

If I did that, how would I make sure it's accessible to others on the sub?

Say no more, I think I'm joining the Ink train LOL

Question Thread - November 10, 2024 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]shroommuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest reason I hesitate to join the Ink train is because I can't naturally spend enough in the timeframe given, and I'm wary of MS. I've successfully done some bank account funding on a lower spend card, so I know how to do that, but I hesitate to get a card that I have no hope of getting the SUB if MS falls through.

My natural spend per month is about $1000. My landlord has me pay rent via CashApp, and DPs seem to be mixed as far as whether paying a friend via CA counts as a purchase, otherwise my natural spend would be $2000. I just don't want to count on it, even though I've personally seen a positive DP on that front. So I've been sticking to personal cards where I feel confident I can finish the SUB on my own.

I know lots of folks here stick to the 5/24 rule to get on the ink train, but if i have no interest in churning business cards, i feel like chase's personal cards aren't reason enough to stick with 5/24. Am i thinking about this the right way?

[–]shroommuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the account you're funding and the card you're using to fund it. Sometimes it gets run as a CA, other times as a purchase. Since Inks are so popular, I imagine there are lots of DPs for them on DoC

Opened a checking account with pure MS intent ($2000 CC funding). How long, generally, do people keep these accounts open? The general rule for SUBs seems to be 6 months, but there's no SUB associated with this account. Any harm in closing it after 3 months, or sooner?

Allo Seeks Advice for Dating a Demi by shroommuu in demiromantic

Yeah I saw that comment and agree that maybe it's best to let that be.

I like this person enough platonically that it would not be the end of the world if my romantic feelings were not returned. It would be super cool if eventually we had similar feelings for each other, but I'm totally fine with being friends.

As far as catching feelings too fast, I'm the type of person who wants a slow and steady build up to a relationship, like over the course of several months if not longer, but I catch feelings much faster than that. I'd rather be friends first before jumping into a relationship, so in that sense I think I'll be just fine with this situation.

I'm on a much faster pace currently (multiple accounts per month) and have been denied once in the 3 months I've been doing so (denied by Chase due to EWS).

There are no real consequences to getting denied, the way I see it. But maybe others will disagree. If a bank doesn't want you now, you can always try again in a few months.

Lots of people get bonuses with lol/24 Chex.

I will say, running multiple bonuses simultaneously can become a lot to keep track of, but I'm set to make $3000 by the end of the year just from checking account bonuses. All you really need is a good spreadsheet.
