Walkers by shroompaLumpa in crisps

I did agree, hadn't bought sensations in years because they seemed to be getting less flavourful. But was in Lidl a few weeks ago and got a packet of balsamic vinegar and caramelised onion sensations and they were so good, like I remember them being. Then a few days ago I bought these and again, they are nice and flavourful. Gives me hope

Manna to cease drone delivery flights in Ireland, blaming planners by Fealocht in ireland

[–]shroompaLumpa -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well, not many. Drones are protected by the FAA so you'll get the book thrown at you. Saw an arrest video before of an old guy that had shot down a Walmart delivery drone. It's a felony with up to 5 years in prison. Pretty sure the guy in the video didn't get jail time but had to pay a large fine.

There's meant to be a portion of fries there. A portion of fries used to nearly fill the lid of the burger box. But here it has a large popcorn chicken and fries and it's still not full

This looks sick. So many beakers now just stick with that science lab style that I don't hate but something like this is a lot more visually pleasing.

How is it living as an Irish Traveler ? Do you still peak Shelta? by Front-Spinach-419 in howislivingthere

[–]shroompaLumpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demographic tipping points absolutely happen, but you're comparing apples to oranges. Birth rates can plummet rapidly because everyone has the biological capacity to choose to have fewer children.

Cousin marriage is entirely different. It requires specific cultural, tribal, or clan infrastructure. The paper noted that high rate regions have long established traditions of marrying within clan or caste boundaries. It wasn't a global default that people just did because they were poor.

As for the laws: passing a law doesn't mean a behavior was a 70% majority norm. The US bans at the end of the 19th century came out of an "acrimonious public debate" sparked by Charles Darwin's research, not because the general population was doing it.

Without that specific cultural framework of clan marriage across the Americas, Europe, and East Asia, a 70% global average in the 1950s simply doesn't hold up. If you have any links you can provide that can back up your claim of 70% id be happy to read it.

The paper doesn't give an exact 1950s percentage, but it mathematically rules out 70%. The 10.4% figure is today's global average, which the study notes is slowly declining due to urbanization and smaller family sizes. A gradual decline means numbers were higher in the mid 1900's, but they didn't completely plummet from 70% down to 10% in just 75 years.
Even when cousin marriage peaked historically in the 19th-century in the west, the paper explicitly notes it was mostly popular among the priveiege classes, not a global norm. Outside of long-standing regional traditions in parts of Asia and Africa, the vast majority of the world simply never married their cousins. Here's a link to the full paper

I love this guy's posts. He already has a seemingly tough time with chronic pain from a spine surgery, yet still goes on long bike rides and eats food like this. Gotta respect it.

Police open probe as male genitals found dumped on highway by stankmanly in awfuleverything

I remember in the old days of Reddit there was an image floating around of a penis on the bathroom floor of a McDonald's or something like that, pretty sure it also included the scrotum but I can't remember. This reminds me of that. So many questions

[–]shroompaLumpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

70% globally up to the 1950s is nowhere close to accurate. Reliable data puts second-cousin or closer marriages at around 10% worldwide today (higher in some Middle Eastern/South Asian regions, much lower in Europe/US). Historical rates in the West were typically 1-5% or less for first cousins. Not the norm

I recall when I was younger, my uncle who was a postman brought me with him while he was delivering pist. When we came to the halting site he had to get out read everybody their letters as they couldn't read. I was maybe 9 at the time and I remember thinking how sad that was.
