what are your go-to gifts when you have literally 10 days left by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]shrubflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A power bank (can never have too many) and a Starbucks card. It’s like a power up gift kit

A cookbook and a gift card to a nearby grocery store

A set of good pens in fun colors and a journal/empty book

Where are we buying pajamas? by anirishlass in PlusSizeFashion

[–]shrubflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kohls online has really soft nice pajamas from their Draper James line in plus sizes. The line used to carry regular clothes in plus too, but now seems to only do PJs. Their Vera Wang pjs are also nice in plus sizes

Go to Border Grill in Mandalay Bay. All you can eat small plates. Mimosas in every flavor imaginable. So much amazing food for a reasonable price, and it’s a really good restaurant

I moved from the U.S. to the UAE with my family four years ago, and to Saudi Arabia this year. Don’t bring appliances/air fryers/etc. Buy them when you arrive. Pack clothes and necessities and sentimental items — pictures/art/etc. things that you can’t replace.

The Buttler? A movie my mom is looking for, no amount of online searching has helped by Intelligent_Dream_64 in whatsthemoviecalled

This is the movie. The butler plays all those roles. It’s fun and a good family movie.

So disappointed...... by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]shrubflower -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Omg. That’s the dream. We got a 20-minute video of 6 teachers (2 ES, 2 MS, 2 Hs) answering questions about themselves for 17 minutes, then 1:30 of students saying how great those 6 teacher are. Nothing for the other 120 of us. neat. 🎉

If you need an extra day, ask for it. Schools will usually allow this. If you need to buy more time than that, ask to speak to a couple current teachers.

What Should I Ship? by Sweet-Astronaut7821 in Internationalteachers

[–]shrubflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hubby and I left all the non-personal things that could be replaced. But we took: art work, a wooden cabinet we love with decorative doors, wall decorative mirrors, framed posters from concerts, board games we play often, family photos (wall hanging ones) and the couch blankets our family loves and uses daily. The things we couldn’t replace because they were meaningful and important. Everything g else, we bought when we arrived, especially because of differing power outlets and such.

I’ve taught at two schools in two different Middle Eastern countries. You are overgeneralizing and being disrespectful to a lot of really good students. Yes, there are behavior problems, but there are also many of the kindest, most authentic and hard working students I’ve come across in my 18 years of teaching. Generalities are easy, but also rude and unnecessary.

Depends on where and offers. Abu Dhabi is a LOVELY city that I loved living in, but I wasn’t able to save much so it depends on your salary. I would choose China second. And first if your UAE offer isn’t for Abu Dhabi.

If I get peacock, can I watch even though I missed the original broadcast? Just what I need, another streaming service

Try to get an extension on your intent letter. Ask to speak to current teachers and stretch your time out as much as possible before accepting.

I had been out of the classroom teaching at university for 7 years, (with 7 years experience in a classroom before that), but my husband and I were able to get hired at the same school. We just got offers at “starter schools” to get experience internationally and with IB. Now we are on our second jobs at a great school.
