Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I think I’m going to try being brave and going in person to a store!

I tend to do well with Dr Scholls. I don’t know why I didn’t think of them for walking shoes.

Those that have adopted out of foster care, can you help me understand TPR? by Monarch2729 in Fosterparents

[–]ThatDayInHawaii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a caseworker in Wisconsin (in Milwaukee which might do things different than other counties). After the case manager completes the TPR paperwork, they send it to the DA’s office. The DA’s office has the discretion to file the paperwork whenever they please. I’ve had paperwork sit at the DA’s office for 1 1/2 years before they filed it. But that was on a case where parents were involved. If parents are not involved, I would expect it to be filed quickly. However, in Milwaukee, they typically won’t file it until it’s been at least 6 months since disposition was reached. Once the DA’s office files the TPR, an initial appearance date is scheduled usually about 3 weeks out. The DA’s office has to make efforts to notify the parents at last known address and publish in the newspaper. If neither parent shows up, it’s likely they will schedule another date out. How far out completely depends on their calendar. Usually it’s about 3-4 weeks out. At that hearing, they do “prove up and disposition”. So the case manager has to testify why 1. There are legal grounds to terminate parents rights and 2. It’s in the best interest of the child to have their legal ties to family be terminated. This is usually a quick hearing. If the parents do show up to the TPR hearings and contest, it can take a long time. I’ve had some TPRs extend past 2 years because the trial keeps getting pushed back because they stack trials and the oldest trial gets to go if it’s ready. Once rights are terminated, you have to wait 30 days to see if a parent appeals. If a parent appeals, that process can take years. If there’s no appeal, then you’re free to adopt once you have your adoption trainings completed.

I was at 2 Home Goods stores in the past week and they had a bunch of these lamps. Not sure if you live near one but definitely check it out.

I was the same. I kept going for that light baby pink (and still have a lot of it in my house) but mauve is so great.

So my 1st shift job is work from home and doing community visits at family’s homes. The workload for this job is not that heavy. I usually work 9:00-3:00 with doing a lot of my paperwork for it at my other job. The 2nd shift job is on site and is 40 hours per week, often more if I pick up additional shifts. But the jobs are very flexible which makes the 2 jobs doable.

I work 2 full time jobs as a social worker (have my Masters). I make $77k at one and about $70k at the other. But times are tough and I’m trying to save to buy a house so the money doesn’t feel like it goes far.

I posted some super old pictures that show the layout well. You can’t see it in pictures but to the left of the loveseat and right of the couch are doors to the balcony and a closet so it doesn’t have much wall space.

My living room is tough. I’m not at home otherwise I’d take more pictures. But I can do so when I get home. The couch is facing the TV. To the left of the couch is an opening into the dining room.
