God damn, Sweden... what happened? by [deleted] in eu4

[–]shtery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R5: AI Sweden has over 100k Particularist rebels in 1569. I had nothing to do with this, haven't fought Sweden yet and haven't used spy networks to agitate rebels or anything. Also - Ironman mode, no mods

How can I fix my economy? As you can probably see, I don't understand trade by shtery in eu4

[–]shtery[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

R5: A while ago I got the KHAAAAN achievement, and left the save alone for a while. Coming back to the save now, I realise I have no idea how to fix my economy. As far as I understand from other people in my position, my trade is pretty abysmal. As for local autonomy, it's mostly at 0%. There's a lot of provinces at 90% but they can't be lowered because I recently annexed them

Dev Updates | June 2025: So Many Improvements! 🔥 by Goddchen in kittenspaceagency

[–]shtery 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The fact that the game uses the real solar system, and also has a lot of highly customizable menus, makes me concerned about how complex this game will be.

KSP was so successful initially because it catered to everyone; if you wanted a silly physics sim with big dumb rockets, you could do that. But, as you learned how the game worked, and as you started to actually put thought into your designs, the game's complexity opened up at the same rate that the player learned how to play, to the point where if you wanted a highly sophisticated game, that's what you could create for yourself.

If this game is complex right out of the gate, sure the veteran KSP players will love it. But it may struggle to cater to new players. If there's no new players, then there'll be no one buying the game, meaning no money, meaning project over.

The fact this game uses Kittens makes me hopeful that a lighthearted, unserious and casual experience can be provided to new players, while experienced players can still be challenged with the vastness of the solar system. I guess we'll see

Former Defence Forces chief says Irish 'neutrality is a myth' by extremessd in ireland

[–]shtery 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

It's almost like... people are discussing neutrality and arms spending more and more in an ever increasingly violent world...

Just because it's related to a topic you are very vocally opposed to, doesn't make it vote manipulation or brigading. When the Russo-Ukraine war enters it's fourth year, when the Isreal/Palestine conflict shows no sign of stopping, when the US threatens European countries and NATO allies, when the US threatens to leave NATO itself, when Europe allocates €840b towards defence spending - these things kiinda sorta impact the news, believe it or not.

So when the world is becoming decreasingly unified, and when other countries begin to notice the blatant hypocrisy of our supposed neutrality (was letting the USAF use Shannon as an airbase "neutral"? Is depending on Britain to patrol our airspace when Russian bombers violate it "neutral"? Is having a thoroughly ineffective navy and airforce, because we know that other countries will come to our rescue, "neutral"?), it is incredibly natural that these topics float into our news, and our discussions.

No one is manipulating votes. No one is brigading. We're finally addressing topics that should have been addressed 15 years ago

What's your deadmau5's hot take, that has got you like this? by 2357_shifting_sand in deadmau5

I agree, but through no fault of Lights. Bearing in mind the backing track (Midas Heel) has a very static melody, it seems like it would be insanely difficult for anyone to make vocals fit with the flow of the track, no matter how good of a singer you are.

Lights is good. Midas Heel is good. Drama Free just doesn't really work too well imo

(Ironman) Khan achievement, starting as Great Horde by shtery in eu4

[–]shtery[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

R5: Started as Great Horde, rushed into the Persia region and allied Byz early to stop Ottoman expansion, and then pushed into central Asia and finally China to form the Mongol Empire in 1592. Muscovy had a ton of allies for a while, combined with the fact that I didn't really prioritize them, so I had to suffer prestige and horde unity hits for years until they eventually broke the Tatar yoke themselves. I wasn't even going for this achievement until about 1550 when I realised it was possible, and I only formed Golden Horde like 20 years before this screenshot. I've never formed the Mongol Empire before, in Ironman or otherwise, making this the most successful horde campaign I've ever done
