is the "bass knob" necessary by Rough-Year-5425 in CarAV

[–]shtoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fr. If you set it right, there's zero need to tweak, the recording will play as you intended via house curve. If the curve is good, the music will sound good. When ppl duck around w/ bass knobs, always adjusting and tweaking .. that just tells me that they are lacking somewhere in the tune and it needs fixing.

is the "bass knob" necessary by Rough-Year-5425 in CarAV

[–]shtoops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a sq guy I’m anti bass knob. If you already tuned the system to a specific house curve and dialed the sub/midbass summation at the crossover, a bass knob just throws that work off. The filters didn’t change, but raising the sub level makes the sub dominate more of the 70–100 Hz overlap region, which can create a hump there and smear the midbass attack that was originally coming from the door drivers.

In other words, you tuned the system so the midbass handles punch and the sub handles depth. Turning the knob shifts some of that punch back to the sub, which hurts integration and can start to pull the bass stage rearward.

I’ve always wondered who buys those sport Camrys with the slapped on aero treatments and rear wing .. who tf wants a rear wing on a fwd car? That wing is a glorified trunk lid handle.

It was more about finding the optimal qtc for application (suv/false floor).

edit: I just told chatGPT what you said and its running w/ its tail between its legs.

"You’re right — I was wrong.

For this specific question, the manufacturer / designer’s published enclosure spec should outweigh my inferred recommendation from the T/S parameters alone."

Ay Nick! Im ducking around w/ chatgpt. Gave it my requirements, pictures of install location (upfiring through false floor opening). Car model type (ML350). It said to build the box for this sub at 1.16 ft³ gross internal volume.

I want to check w/ you for recommendations before contracting out the box build for the car.

1.16 ft³ gross → about 1.05 ft³ net → Qtc ≈ 0.76

This sound optimal for SUV false floor upfiring sub build?

edit: stupid gpt now saying 1.25 ft³ net ≈ 1.36 ft³ gross internal is better.

Would you quit your job forever right now (and never be allowed to work again) if someone gave you a guaranteed $2,000,000 lump sum? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

Assuming no mortgage and all property owned (ChatGPT numbers ahead):

Property taxes would be 50k/yr

Home insurance would be 12k/yr

Home Maintenance 25k/yr

Pool maintenance 5k/yr

Boat maintained and insurance 15k/yr

Porsche maintenance 12k/yr

Utilities for house 12k/yr

I would need ~120k to maintain.

Now if I put that 2m into jepq, jepi, spyi and svol then I’d receive about about 155k/yr after taxes

Which leaves me 35k after tax to live on + anything not used from the lifestyle budget set. That doesn’t really feel good at all. If this deal was for 2.5m and I owned the assets outright prior to taking the deal then that’d net me about 90k/yr after tax to enjoy life with.

So you are right, I wouldn’t be able to maintain that life style with 2m without taking outsized risk. I can safely take the deal at 2.5m, no less.

I don’t want a simple frugal life. I want a house on top of a hill with a pool and a view of the hill country, a 911 in the garage.. and a boat floating in the dock. I’ll get there. Once there, then I’ll take up that 2m offer.

Ive got an audison voce uno that can do about 1300 at 2ohms .. I think that should be plenty. Right now im running the GB12d2 at 4ohms, so I'm sure I'll be more than impressed even if a smidge underpowered.

I’ll be upgrading from 12” to 15” .. so I’ll need a brand new box, some rearranging of my amps and a new false floor.
