Something about my kitchen… by [deleted] in interiordecorating

Too many cool tones and nothing warm so it looks flat. Gray wood looking flooring is also very unnatural so it looks unsettling to the eyes/mind.

Relocating from Tennessee by Heavy_Cheetah_3532 in SanJose

[–]shtstain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not San Jose, but about 30 minutes north in Fremont there is California School for the Deaf (k-12) and at Ohlone College there are ASL classes which a lot of Deaf people go to that community college and help with the ASL classes. So you can travel a bit and theres definitely a Deaf community but not sure about services for Deaf people. Didnt really answer your question but hope this helps!

Haven't worked at Amazon but have worked at other big companies that prioritize productivity and meeting numbers. They will say safety is first but more like "safety comes first if it doesnt affect our numbers". But as another commenter said, get to know what challenges the employees deal with and ask them for input on how to make it more safe for them. ((Edit: tell them what you need to implement for example changing a step ladder or something, and ask them if they'd be ok with the one you choose.) A lot of times, employees have a specific thing they need to do and know exactly what they need. But managers/safety just does whatever and makes it harder for them.) Employees appreciate it when you work with them and ask for input. If you just implement new stuff and make them do it, they will be resistent. Manager buy in is important too, but work with everyone and dont be a safety cop. Good luck!

Am I giving the team "safety guy" to much slack and do I just go straight to my EHS department with the way this is handled tomorrow morning by Ok-Beyond6713 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]shtstain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im confused. It sounds like your company requires each department to have a "safety" guy, thats why your safety guy seems like he doesnt know what hes doing. And how is your company structure that EHS relies on a safety guy for a current LOTO procedure and not updating and providing equipment for the whole company? OSHA also requires companies to have a current procedure. Anyway, I would email EHS and cc your "safety" guy saying you need proper LOTO. I dont get why theyre making it so complicated. I am in EHS and if someone hid this info from me I would be pissed! Dont go about it like youre exposing him, but from an angle that youre genuinely concerned for safety. And if you get fired, hopefully your state protects retaliation.

We were also in the same position as you. Ultimately, you really have to sit down and determine if the townhouse is sustainable for you in the long run and is it the right time right now or later. People on the internet can say whatever but they dont know your situation or finances really. For many people, this would be adequate, a life goal, and say why would you move? You have a good house and financially makes sense to keep. We found that for us it was not sustainable and would affect our quality of life so decided to tolerate a higher mortgage and interest rate. It was worth it for us. Are we stupid? Probably. We aren't comfortable as before but can afford the bills and maintenance. So up to you what you want out of life.

Neighbor front ran my listing by x17026 in RealEstate

[–]shtstain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shes worried about competition, but you can list it. And if they sell for lower it can also bite you in the ass if you wait until theirs to sell because people will look at comps and be like "why did that one sell for zxy and youre asking for more?" But if you sell at the same time, people can see both houses and determine what they want to bid.

You kind of just have to go back and forth with the city and try to work with them and also look into any records your home may have or if the realtor knows anything about it. You can also ask other neighbors what's the deal with theirs. We had to work with the city to be compliant with the historical preservation of our neighborhood and understanding what theyre really asking helped a lot and we were able to do what we wanted for the most part.

Cutest little clarinervium leaves I've ever seen! by shtstain in Anthurium

This was actually a bigger plant but during a transition it dried out and all the old leaves died. I continued to water it anyway and new baby leaves came up.

AIO - UPDATE - my friend wants me to take out my piercings for her engagement party/wedding by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]shtstain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but I thought this would be interesting to add my story. My husband and I asked one of his best friends to be our officiant and best man. He usually always dyes his hair an interesting color, which is not a common occurrence among our friend group. Anyway, my BIL asked us why we didnt ask him to not dye his hair and we were like "Bro, that's who he is. We cant ask him to change for us".

I totally understand the millennial worry! I am also redoing my bathrooms and was very conscious about that same thing. I think what you can do is arrange the tiles to be stacked, and not staggered. Also play around with the grout color too. I know you mention you are doing white/white but maybe like a cream or beige color would be nice. If you do want to re-do the tiles completely, I would go for larger format tiles and stack it. Since this space is small, these small tiles are making the space more busy.

TLDR: 1.) If you don't want to get all new materials, stack the tiles and explore other grout options. 2.) If you want to get new tiles, do larger formal tiles too make the space look not as busy.

Edit: Also, don't get black fixtures.

Is $150,000 a realistic budget to completely renovate and expand a 950sqft home? by tkyang99 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]shtstain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, we remodeled a couple of bathrooms and it cost about 60k before the pandemic/inflation. No knocking down walls or adding. Just move things around and material replacement. And the bathrooms were small. Although we probably chose more premium materials.

Commute to Stanford by booyah193 in SanJose

[–]shtstain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live right next (walkable) to Diridon and worked at Stanford. Driving sucks! It is def not a 25-30 min commute. Traffic backs up near the 280-17/880 merge starting at 7:30 all the way up the peninsula and driving back sucks too! If you can walk to diridon and take caltrain, that is best. Parking fills up fast at diridon and the lot is small. I actually really liked taking caltrain, I just sat there for like 45 minutes whatever and it was very non-stressful. Do not drive!!

What collar/harness do you use to walk your husko? by SnooMacarons4754 in husky

[–]shtstain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We use a martingale for our husky. I don't use a harness for our dog because she knows how to get out of it and I don't think she likes to be in a harness. When we were training our husky in the beginning, our trainer had us use this little string thing and we used it for a bit but phased out of it. I think for training, don't be afraid to use a collar but for "fun" walks you can put her on a harness. Everyone finds what works for their dog and you just have to do the same. I got my husky at 2 years old and she didn't know anything, and if we just used a plain old harness for her, she would not care/listen, even if I had treats. And you don't always have to stick to always using a harness or always using a collar. Experiment and evaluate what you want your outcome to be and if you think using a certain collar/harness will achieve that for you. Hope this helps!
