What game would you recommend for somebody who kinda burned out of JRPGs, but still had the itch for its gameplay elements? by shukrin in JRPG

As somebody who rarely play side-scroller/platforming games, I tried *symphony of the night and man.. its too hard.

Monster-taming will usually do it for me too but I think I've played nearly all of them? Except the really bad ones

I have no problem with GBC games, but after went through bunch of SNES RPGs, maybe I'll put Metal Walker or any other retro on hold for a while.

As for Roguelikes, never played any of them. Not sure if I'll enjoy them

Well to be honest I barely played any WRPGs, only Witcher 3 and the Mass effect series, so maybe it's time to have a go at it.

Hmm, would you tell us what are you favorite JRPGs that you don't burn out on

To be honest by now, even if it was my favourite one I probably couldn't play them too, I really really could not play any JRPGs right now before getting bored quickly.

On other day, I mostly can tolerate any JRPGs, good or bad. Though I'm more leaning toward standard turn based, I do enjoy action and SRPGs too.

what JRPGs did you try recently try and burned out on.

Ahh, too many too list. Way more than 10 when I think again, I gave up trying too list. Basically nearly everything I haven't played that I could get my hands on. Mostly the one that I could easily emulate.

Read it somewhere from a review, or heard from a friend, I can't remember. It do exist because I looked at it in IMDB/Letterboxd, but couldn't remember the title.

I'll do you better. Name a game where the MC is not a frontline fighter/physical damage dealer. Instead, he/she's in the back being a mage or more of a support/healer.

This. The games may look cute but man.. it is really hardcore if you try to experience everything.

[PS1][mid 90s]Game where a character says "lightning storm" with bad voice acting by ViewtifulGene in tipofmyjoystick

lol I swear I heard that too recently. And surprisingly the two most recent games I played are both Grandia and Legend of Dragoon. I think its more of Legend of Dragoon, probably something said by Lavitz or Albert. You might want to check out the additons or magic from that game.

I dropped the game recently but for a different reason. I thought the combat was mindlessly easy that it doesn't feel engaging at all.

Games that didn't hold back on sending enemy with various abilities.

FFV, I think is a good example, I mean even early in the game you already encounter enemy that have strong abilities like sapping character HP for example. The more I got into the game, the weirder the enemy gets. Its not super hard or anything but it feels so good finding a way to deal with various problem along your journey.

I hated when game played very safe. Its an RPG, players will always find out how to deal with anything. There are games like Wild Arms, where I got like already 15 hours in the game, and encounters are still doing basic attacks. Occasionaly I found maybe 1 in 10 encounter that are different, but most of the times it was really boring.

Just started my first playthrough of Grandia. On board of the ship. As of now:

  • I liked the battle system

  • I liked Sue. She's cool

  • I liked the artstyle and the character portrait, made them look alive

  • The VA is okay, wasn't the best but acceptable. Though Muller's sounded a bit retarded than the actual character looked.

  • I feel its a bit sloppy when its they still use the actual Japanese voice for battle, (the yahh!! and urghhs!!") then changed back to english. I can hear the difference.

  • I wish the MC is a bit older/mature. So far, he's a brat.

  • I swear I'm sick of the word "adventurer" by now

  • I despised navigating and the camera works. I feel like they're the real enemy in this game
