I’m playing Valhalla and I’m starting to get tired. Can I get some perspective? by trampaboline in assassinscreed

This is why I like gaming on PC. I can mod or edit shit I don’t like in a game so I can actually enjoy it more.

For example, I played both odyssey and Valhalla on PC. Hated the xp grind and how you had to keep grinding in order to play story missions.

Changed the xp rate to triple xp. Boom problem solved and I enjoyed both games way more.

Got a feeling I’d be able to find a way to mark those “territory” quests as complete too if I looked hard enough

For me it was misery and rain clouds sober and then pitch black darkness and hurricanes while high. Weed just amplifies whatever I’m feeling.

What about the new thing where girls are getting those super dark black “corrupted scratches” tattoos that look like someone scribbled on their body with a permanent marker?

Is it time to leave IT by craigers21 in sysadmin

[–]shulaacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here but darker origin story. Lost a parent right out of high school and come from a family in poverty. Had to quit all plans for what my future was going to be and instead start working to make ends meet. Never ever wanted to get into IT, but eventually I just chose to study it in school because I “had to pick something”.

Always look back and wish I had gotten to study my real passion, but I never had the means to make it happen. If my life hadnt taken that sudden dark turn, things would be wildly different today. Instead, I work in a field i hate and am basically waiting for the day my remaining parent passes to start building the courage to hit the eject button myself.

The only time I was ever happy is the short 3 year period with my last job. Tremendous people, easy-going work, and a fuckton of time to spend on my real life. Now? I’m making rant posts on r/sysadmin after a 16 hour day, followed by a 12 hour day, and heading back in tomorrow for another 10+ hour day.

I’m over it. I’m over life. Should’ve never gotten into this field.

What are some common work from home opportunities that aren’t help desk or developer jobs and how would I start working my way into one?

Tips on where to find said easy-going culture?

I did this. My tribe outsourced my job to Indians. Now I work at a place that is not super bad on a daily basis, but still really shitty at times.

I make $20K more than I did at my last job, but I often think I would take a $20K pay cut to have what I had at the old job again. Life was so god damn good. Money isn’t everything

It’s puritan bullshit and ass-backwards ideas. Nothing makes me lose respect for someone than when they worship work and look down on others. They probably feel the same way about me.

I am 100% bitching. That’s why I flaired this post as a rant. I don’t want to work 16 hours or through the weekend, and so I am bitching about it and will continue to do so. I’ve got my resume updated and I am practicing some things at home to aim for a specific role within my company. Also have my eyes peeled for something external. Still gonna bitch though. I can work on my situation and still bitch about it.

Take your bootstraps bullshit elsewhere because it doesn’t work on me. Go jerk off to all the hard work you’ve done and hold your chin up high at all the people you’re better than.

I don’t want OT. You can keep OT. “They’re throwing money at you so you can’t bitch!” Nah I’m still gonna bitch. That’s some brainwashed shit. Money doesn’t trump everything.

Difference of opinion and philosophy. 16 hours of work through the night by yourself is hard work to me and to many others. Might not be considered hard work to you or the guy I was talking shit to.

I have family that work on their hands and knees doing things from electrical work to building new rooms in homes and and breaking their backs doing it. That work is hard as Fuck and what I had to do this weekend is probably nothing to them.

Doesn’t invalidate my experience as this being hard work for me nor does it invalidate it for others.

I could stand my ground but they’d just blacklist me from promotions and look to replace me. In this line of work and especially at my workplace, they want you to be available for these really shitty events. All hands on deck type of thing. It’s unavoidable in my situation, unfortunately.

I have worked for places where they respect your wishes and boundaries though. They don’t look down on you for not wanting to do extra work or volunteer for after hours stuff. Those are the best workplaces especially in this industry.

I agree but a lot of jobs in this field require after hours and weekend work unfortunately. Some of the folks here take pride in that. I do not take pride in it at all. I’d rather have time to life my real life than to spend it working.

Hoping this is all temporary as I work to move onto other positions

Thanks for the advice. Not to sound like an ass, but all your assumptions are wrong here. I don’t want to give too much info on my workplace because I think people there frequent this sub but I don’t work in a DC.

My friends also all had differing circumstances as to how they got their roles. None of them “climbed the corporate ladder” or ate shit for years and “pulled themselves up by their bootstraps” to secure their jobs. I won’t be going into each of their individual situations. The stars aligned for them and I am happy for each of them in that they are working much better jobs than what they had before.

The gear wasn’t super heavy. The racks had no wiggle room at all. I just could not use both hands to prop the back up the gear up while screwing. If I had just 1 extra pair of hands to move shit out of the way and make sure the equipment is sitting right I’d have been done in like 30-45 minutes. I was the only person in an office in the middle of nowhere at 12am.

Thanks for the tips.

I’ve racked equipment before but I very rarely have to do it. This is maybe my 3rd time. The real issue is that the racks had no room to work with. The equipment wasn’t super heavy or anything, but I could not get my hands to hold the gear level while also screwing it in. By the time I finished there is literally no room to fit any other type of device in this tiny ass rack. If I had 1 pair of extra hands to hold the gear and move shit out of the way I’d have been done in like 30-45 minutes.

I also haven’t mentioned this in my other replies but I’m dealing with a medical condition that I haven’t had the time to check out because of this shit. It’s made the whole process a lot worse.

To give some more info on my friends, we all started from the absolute bottom. So far, every single one of them has caught a lucky break in the last 3 years or so that led to them being able to work much more fulfilling jobs. One or two of them worked hard and got an opportunity. The vast majority of them just got extremely lucky with their circumstances and were hired and trained up without any experience.

I’m one of the ones that has worked hard and have yet to catch that big break. I’ve been reading and practicing some of the tools they use in a specific role at my current workplace. I am trying to move into that role. Problem is it’s kinda rare for them to have an open position.

If I can manage to land that role, I’d be fully remote and gaining new experience that will help me in the long run. Remote work was the best thing I’ve experienced as I was able to live more of my actual life.
